Bloody hell, this is arrogant even by the ECB's standards. They are priceless, aren't they?

Current squad: Eoin Morgan (capt), Moeen Ali, Jonny Bairstow (wk), Jos Buttler (wk), Tom Curran, Joe Denly, Liam Plunkett, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, Jason Roy, Ben Stokes, David Willey, Chris Woakes, Mark Wood. 1 from Vince, Malan and Foakes. I would go with Foakes. Archer to replace Willey.
At 101-6 England were in the ****! Thank god for Curran and Foakes.
I agree with Morgan that no individual (Hales) is bigger than the team. Hales let down himself and his team mates and deserves to be left out of the squad. With the greatest of respect the punishment (21 day) didn't fit the crime. After the Bristol incident it is really disappointing he has left himself down again. Cricketers are role models for youngsters. What sort of example is he setting?

Is everyone OK with this kind of imagery?
It's from the launch video for the ECB's new Express Yourself campaign. Needless to say, Tom Harrison hopes it will "inspire the next generation to help grow the game". (I wonder how many times a day Tom Harrison says "grow the game". It must run to double figures I'd have thought). Apparently the video "has been co-created with England ODI captain Eoin Morgan". I rather suspected he might have had a hand in it.

With regard to lions, Morgan told Cricinfo the other day that "Our values as a team include the words 'courage', 'respect', and 'unity', symbolising the three lions on our cap, and taking that cap forward across all three formats and all squads". This is getting uncomfortably close to the way that Australians start bawling their eyes out at the sight of the baggy green.
Shouldn't it be the lions that symbolise courage, respect and unity, rather than the other way around? And since when has respect been one of lions' core values anyway? (I've never been sure how much courage it takes to be a lion, come to that). Probably isn't worth dwelling on what "taking that cap forward" might mean.

OMG that's me in my dreams I swear. Then the lions turn nasty, I'm running, and before I know it I'm wrestling George Bush in Brad Pitt's caravan. Nice dream.

Absolutely awful and embarrassing. This gimmickry just makes a mockery of the game and all before a ball has been bowled! Go out and play the game, if you’re good enough you’ll win and then you can collect all the plaudits and put your crown on, not before.

I've almost become immune to the stupidity of the ECB. This is mind-bogglingly crass. Who on earth is being paid to dream up this embarrassing garbage?

Who on earth is being paid to dream up this embarrassing garbage? That's an easy one. The campaign was "developed in partnership with MATTA" (not forgetting to credit Eoin Morgan as co-creator of course).
www.makeitmatta.com/about/
You'd hope MATTA would have their own brand diagnosis model, and they have:- "Our brand diagnosis model is based on the same psychology and cutting-edge behavioural science used by the world’s leading FMCG brands. This ensures that our sports brands and their campaigns consistently trigger the appropriate response in fans and participants in order to deliver results".
If you were worried that the England cricket brand might be triggering inappropriate reponses in you, don't sweat it. MATTA have taken ownership of all that, and will ensure that your responses are appropriate.
Some (not all!) might think the Wikipedia definition of FMCG is more suggestive of the Hundred than the England team's matches.
"Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) or Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) are products that are sold quickly and at a relatively low cost. Examples include non-durable goods such as packaged foods, beverages, toiletries, over-the-counter drugs, and other consumables."
Couldn't agree more with Joe when he said "Go out and play the game, if you’re good enough you’ll win and then you can collect all the plaudits and put your crown on, not before". I've never understood what's achieved by telling everyone you're the best that couldn't be done more classily by actually demonstrating that you're the best and keeping your trap shut.

Well, the World Cup has started and I thought England put in a solid performance against South Africa yesterday. It was good to see Jofra Archer looking dangerous, not that many Sussex supporters will be surprised. Today's game between West Indies and Pakistan was surprisingly one-sided. I wonder if West Indies are the dark horses in this competition.

It was good to see Jofra Archer looking dangerous, not that many Sussex supporters will be surprised. Today's game between West Indies and Pakistan was surprisingly one-sided. I wonder if West Indies are the dark horses in this competition. That made for a refreshing change. Too often, on wickets that aren't absolutely full of runs, England will try to hit their way to 350+ regardless (that being just the way they play); consequently getting out for rather fewer than was gettable in the conditions. Eoin Morgan will then blame England's defeat on the groundsman. Here they judged it perfectly, recalibrating their approach to ensure they set a competitive total that left South Africa with very little margin for error. It was a thoroughly professional performance all round. If they keep playing like that, those victory parade and street party arrangements will very quickly lose their provisional status.

Is it any wonder South Africa lost to Bangladesh when there are so many South Africans playing country cricket?
South African county XI signed since 2016: Van Zyl, Kuhn, Roussow, Smit wk, Wiese, Harmer, Parnell, Abbott, Morkel, Olivier, De Lange
