Great news......just realised that I have been miserable for the last couple of days due to the threat of his departure. What a great birthday present for me!

Really pleased to see the rumours proven wrong and that Luke Wright will be captain over all three formats next summer ( www.sussexcricket.co.uk/news-1/captaincy-luke-wright-appointed-new-sussex-skipper). A very nice, telling quote in the press release, too: "Mine and the coaches’ challenge is to get this club back to winning ways. This starts with not only trying to get back to Division One, but to create a culture that can challenge to win it. "Great news - although it doesn't prove the rumours were wrong, only that Wright has thankfully decided to stay. And yes, I love that quote, too. Robinson admitted that last season the players allowed their heads to drop and were feeling sorry for themselves. I don't think Wright will stand for that and anybody without a positive attitude next season can look forward to a spell in the seconds.

Hallelujah!
Interesting that Mark Robinson says Luke will bring passion, commitment and energy. Does he read this forum?

With that quote in mind, let's get another Aussie in as our overseas, they seem to bring that positive can do attitude, and are generally winners

More from Robinson on the decision to appoint Wright in the Argus today ( www.theargus.co.uk/sport/13807586.Wright_tipped_to_be_a_strong_leader_like_Adams_was_for_Sussex/). Whilst the excellent Steve Hollis draws out the analogy with Chris Adams from one of Robinson's comments, the rest of the interview contains some odd remarks. What to make of "In many ways (appointing Wright) shouldn’t be a reflection on Chris [Nash] but it was just a case of timing"? Perhaps it's just badly expressed, and should be read more as a boost to Nash's confidence, but it comes across as a little grudging towards Wright.

"Just a case of timing" as in we had to offer the captaincy to stop Wright going to Surrey - and otherwise it would have gone to Nash? As a journalist, I'm loathe to say this, but frankly there are times when Robinson should zip his lip.

Definitely the statement of an expert strategist, a man who can be relied upon to give overall direction and not to interfere with the nurturing of skills, wouldn't you say?

I think you're looking a bit too much into it, as Nash has been vice captain for a while and looked likely to be the next skipper in that time, if Robbo had been directly asked about Chris then that is a fair answer. The timing aspect is just that Wright made himself the leading candidate when Joyce decided to stand down.

Adams was captain in 1997 was he not? No, from 1998. Peter Moores was captain in 1997.
