Not sure that this is such an issue, we haven’t really spent much in recent seasons When the likes of Leicestershire can sign any number of players, and have a quality overseas for the whole season, then the idea of Sussex struggling to find the money, doesn’t really wash Financially, we are better off than most, all bar a few of the Test Match counties Leicestershire can sign players because they have released five players and lost another two.
Out Ben Raine (Durham) Zak Chappell (Nottinghamshire) Ned Eckersley (REL) Mark Pettini (REL) Rob Sayer (REL) Tom Wells (REL) Richard Jones (REL) Yes, they’ve freshened up the squad, however they still operated with a squad of 24 plus specialist T20 players They also had an overseas for the duration

If I was Dizzy I’d bring in an aggressive top order Aussie batter to captain the CC.

However, all the top Aussie players are going to be involved in the IPL, World Cup and Ashes tour next year.
So would either be second string or only available for part of the season, at best.

Joe & Jonboy, you're both very good at spending money I've noticed.
I want to know how you intend to fund all these players we need whilst continuing to produce & play our own players? A very difficult act? With your skills why don't you sponsor the club and contribute to getting these players in?

The type of player we need won’t be involved in the IPL or World Cup. Ashes maybe but that’s at the end of the year so would be ideal for them to join a county to get used to English conditions and the duke ball.

I cant believe we don’t have enough money for 1 O/S batter! I do my bit by paying for my annual membership.

I’m not suggesting a Notts style recruitment drive, just a new top order batsman An overseas should do it, and that’s hardly reckless, just bringing us up to the level of the other 17 counties

Worcester have just signed Riki wessels from Notts, I think that could of been the perfect signing for us - absolutely bemused we haven’t made an effort to sign him Furthermore looking at the counties’ released lists Karl brown from lancs and Gary Wilson would both be decent signings I believe

Everybody else does it, so why do we believe we can do without one. It’s the best way of adding the type of quality we couldn’t procure on the domestic market. If it is only going to be one player, than I hope Dizzy sets his sights higher than Sharma and Bruce

I don't think Brown or Wilson would improve the squad. I understand Wilson is returning home to Ireland.

No better than what we have, but going in the opposite direction on the ability scale. What aggressive Aussie opener? It's not 1998, they don't have any. Our batting lineup will be Salt, Haines, Wells, VZ, Finch, Brown. Wright might sneak in if he hasn't left. What you all seem to be blissfully unaware of is that we'll need an overseas quick with Archer and Jordan at IPL. Unless we can shock the world and trust Garton and Whittingham to bowl. We can then switch the OS bowler for the OS batter after IPL if necessary, with much better options too.
