Yes with the injury to van Zyl our top order has been woefully under par. I don’t think Evans will ever be a red ball batter but with his experience he’s got to be a better bet than Finch who really has been a walking wicket.
We need at least 2 new recruits in the top order and now is the time to start looking, not leave it till it’s too late and there’s no one available.

Yes, this is the thing, we need to be a bit more proactive. The coach was too stubborn in his insistence that we didn’t need any more batting, where actually it was clear to most, that we needed new batsmen and bowlers. Having already borrowed 4 players of dubious quality, and called up 3 non contract players to the championship squad, I’d say he got it wrong. In my opinion, we need three quality players, two batsmen, and a strike bowler to help Robinson. If Van Zyl is properly fit, and able to play every match, then we might get away with one top notch batsman, most likely an overseas. It’s possible to have a couple of slots in the top five, that can be used for players making their way, ie Salt and Rawlins, but they need to play alongside quality batsmen
