The mistake you’ve made is heading this post ‘championship cricket’
We are not playing championship cricket this year, we are playing the Bob Willis Trophy, big difference.
We are using this competition to look at the younger players, to give them some experience of 4 day cricket and to look at players who might be worth a contract extension, or not. It’s the ideal opportunity to do this with the least collateral damage.
I believe at the end of this season we will see a few players who have been under performing for years given their P45’s.
Dizzy was quite clear in his recent interview that he wants Sussex to compete for silverware across all formats and to return to Division One in the CC.

This is well worth a listen, Dizzy speaking during the Hants game. www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/playOK then 4 day cricket and I have heard Gillespie after Hampshire game. Sorry Covid gives him an easy excuse and doesnt explain why so few players have shown improvement during his tenure. The fact is we have one of crickets highest profile coaches for 6 months of year and after 3 years end up with 2 other county castoffs and 2 just out of school who havnt even performed at 2nd team level. I suppose it is good Gillespie has so many supporters but we have gone backwards. Anyway we will a few 20/20 games soon and thats what matters

What you also have to remember is we are in arguably the strongest group with 4 of the 5 counties we are playing in Div 1.
To have won one and lost one at this point is pretty good for such a young and inexperienced team.

I agree with Herring, we have gone backwards. We put all our efforts into the one-day stuff way before this season and we've underachieved in that too. Gillespie's a free loader and he's doing nothing. Andrew is just as bad.
Archer, Robinson & Salt are quality and would be on their paths regardless, Evans is so good we've loaned him out and Wiese is a former international - he has not improved he's got worse otherwise he'd still be an international. Nobody has improved through Gillespie, Herring is right. Although he's not as right as me cos I was saying this last year. Unless he was saying it the year before that in which case, he's righter than me. Talking of right, where's Wright? Sod your one-day three games a season pal. It's well known that I love kids, I've been on the news and everything, but you can't play too many at once. Even I know that.

I understand Evans is one of those who might be leaving, along with Briggs and Wells

jb, good to hear from you again. Have you been in Forum lockdown of late?
I was told both Andrew and Gillespie were in deep and animated discussion together as they strode the heated streets of Hove this afternoon. Are we in for some surprises this end of season as contract renewals appear?

Hopefully Andrew will tear up Gillespie's, he's a total flop.

Are we in for some surprises this end of season as contract renewals appear? Thank you, yes I’d gone feral, but I’m back, and banging the same old drum. I do think there will be changes, there has to be. However, given their record over the last few seasons, I can’t say I trust those in charge to get it right. They have overseen the destruction of what was, a reasonably competitive squad. Yes we needed to refresh the squad a little, and bring down the average age, so how does signing the likes of Bopara, Meaker and Claydon do that? For all the emphasis on Pathways, and bringing more youngsters through, we have very little to show for that. It needs a complete rethink.

I understand Evans is one of those who might be leaving, along with Briggs and Wells What?!?! 😳😡So that’s 3 of our most experienced players, including a very good white ball player and another who should be the backbone of our championship batting. Where have you heard this?

Glad to see your last line😉 I don’t think you can say Wiese has got worse otherwise he’d still be an international - some of his performances have been in excellent over the last few years, and he’s not been selected for South Africa as he’s retired from international cricket, hence why he is able to play as a Kolpak.

if as some are saying this BWT doesn't really matter and JG is using this for development, why are Brown and Salt playing? Who is the reserve wicketkeeper anyway - shouldn't he be playing? Save Brown and Salt for the one dayers.
