Maybe everything might go to plan and these youngsters develop how we want them to, but each season we are losing our best players and there’s now rumours of Oli Rob going as well. Unless this stops we have no chance I agree. There are a lot of good youngsters coming through although Crocombe, Atkins, Hunt still need to improve. However, it’s not much use if they are all picked off by other counties. We are closer to a decent team than we were a year ago. This winter’s dealings will tell us a lot, I feel. Very good point this Phil. If we can keep all our players, sign Pujara and an OS bowler and try and sign a bowler or two from another county than we will be in an ok place (still not as good as when squeaky and grubby took over though!)

Very fair point, this wouldnt be unique to Sussex though, it happens with a lot of sides with non test match or international grounds. The key is building a very strong academy that we keep producing high quality first class cricketers. If we are successful then it becomes easier to keep hold of players. I'm of the belief that our current head coach isnt strong enough for that role and i would invest in a higher quality candidate.

It happens/happened to Leics & Northants. That's it. We are now Leics/Northants. Actually Northants are the new noughties Sussex in some ways. They've turned that horrendous corner and I can tell you for an unchecked fact that they have done with no more money than they've ever had. They've done it through good leadership alone.

www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/62221730Glammy moved way too quickly for sharp shooter Greenfield with this one. Maybe we're just relying on loans from minor counties now. That would have sounded amazing had the guy not just taken 6 wickets but it's worth saying anyway.

We would be better off appointing Grant Flower as head coach. At least he would command respect in the dressing room with what he has achieved in the game.

If the club killers at the top don't permit it it won't matter who the coach is. These people are simply not allowing it. Andrew will happily waste money on a piss poor T20 side but the Champ side is absolutely left to rot, make no bones about that.

I'm listening to the ever immature Finn on R4. For an injured man I'd have thought he'd be batter off getting treatment or doing some work with Kirtley to be fit for the 2nd team games coming up. Highly paid waste of time. Not even a good PR signing! Time to retire him grubby, another of your expensive flops.

As for players we could do with holding on to Currie and possible bringing back kervalas for next season, also a fit Hudson Prentice will be a massive lift bowling wise.

The person who seems to command the most respect at Sussex from the players is Grant Flower as evidenced by the improvement from Orr, Alsop, Carter and Clark. Sarah Taylor also seems to be held in high regard by the players. 100% would offer Currie a contract. The only question mark for me on Karvelas is whether or not he is the best possible overseas bowler we can get (answer maybe yes).

Heard today that Ari Karvelas is already, or very near to, qualifying as a domestic player.

Oh that's good, he only came for a 2 week holiday but Sussex were desperate. Welcome Harry Carver.
Currie, Karvelas, H-P... the youth... the permanently injured... Robinson? What to do with the two OS spots tis the question? Batting's strong. Gordy wants Ibrahim up the order so that rules out Pujara. Ishant & Chawla? All season they'd be. Chawla & Misra? Let's bamboozle the oppo into submission. Many options thanks to our batting youth.
Just hope Andrew & Greenfield aren't here to oversee it, & therefore oversee the obligatory f**k up.

Well done Yardy. But can anyone tell me what he has done to get the Head Coach role. Have the Academy had a stellar season?

He’s had more jobs than I’ve had hot dinners. I’m relieved he’s not going to be our new head coach because I don’t think he’d have stayed around. Nice bloke, rubbish employee.

I've always had him in the same school of crap communication with Kirtley. Does make you wonder what the England hierarchy see that we don't.
