In the dream scenario of selecting from our 2023 squad I would choose: Orr Haines Alsop Smith Pujara Carter FHP Garton Robinson Archer Carson Obviously we won’t have all 11 of these available at any one time (and will be lucky to have 9) but we do have some good alternatives, so I’m feeling optimistic for the first time in several seasons. If only! Reckon we’d challenge any oppo with that team.

They would get beat by…… Burns Sibley Pope Roy Jacks Foakes S Curran Abbott Clark Roach Worrall Good try! The intrigue got the better of me on this one steve, so to fill in the last half hour at work i checked on pure batting average alone and im afraid to say you come up short by 12 runs. Burns 41 Sibley 40 Pope 49 Roy 36 Jacks 34 Foakes 39 S Curran 30 Abbott 22 Clark 28 Roach 13 Worrall 12 Total 344 Orr 44 Haines 37 Alsop 29 Smith 56 Pujara 52 Carter 33 FHP 23 Garton 21 Robinson 20 Archer 25 Carson 16 Total 356

Late change Worrall has done his hamstring in the warm up! Replaced by coming out of retirement A J Stewart!!
Thanks for the info interesting stuff. I hope Sussex have a really good season and get promoted.

Judging by what Farbrace said at the Forum about playing 4 seamers and a spinner i think my 11 might be pretty close.
Haines Orr Alsop Pujara Clark Ibrahim Tear Garton McAndrew Robinson Carson
I'm having Clark as the 4th seamer however if you wanted an out and 4th seamer you would need to leave out Ibrahim or Clark for FHP but to me that would leave a short top order with all-rounders to come in.
Either way it's hard not to be excited about the prospects for this season.

Wouldn't leave you short at all unless you think Ibrahim & Tear are better bats than Carter & H-P - they're not, yet. So swap those two dumb-dumb & you got yourself a team. Better batting, five proper bowlers & more experience too.
I definitely have more confidence for this season than any other part of the multi year plan. Thank Christ we through the old plan away & started again.

I've just heard that clown Finn on TMS, have Sussex sacked him for impersonating a cricketer? Surely can't be paying him? Another shrewd Greenfield/Salisbury signing.
Why would the BBC employ him? Everytime he speaks he says So, or littal. Clown.

Further evidence that players can defy stereotyping as their careers progress. Luke Wells, barely given a chance for season after season by Sussex in white ball cricket, opens for Welsh Fire in The Hundred, top scores with 57 off 23 balls (strike rate 247.82!) and wins Player of the Match. Ironically, Sussex’s former dashers Salt and Evans were both out for first-ball ducks. All credit to Wells for going from strength to strength at Lancs and now being given an opportunity in The Hundred. The way he was treated in his final season at Hove still rankles with me.

I could never understand why he was written off by so many in white ball cricket. He can hit a long ball, has huge levers and bowls very quick leggies which are hard to hit How he was treated by Sussex really was disgraceful, especially from a so called family club. Thankfully I don’t believe this would happen under Filby’s watch even if that weasel squeaky is still at the club

With Samit Patel now available, if he wants to play red ball cricket he'd be a very obvious signing for us given what Farbs said yesterday.

Apparently there’s now doubt about whether Chris Wright is coming to Sussex next year.

Yes I'd heard that rumour. Hopefully he can't wriggle out of it.
