Yep, again, a very accurate line at the end there.

I think this is incredibly poor from the club but I also think this is very poor from Ali as well. The whole thing leaves a sour taste in the mouth
No doubt about it though he’s a gun player and is only going to get better. Who could we possibly sign who’s a better player in all formats?

Very interesting that Alan Wells has commented, I’ve never known him to criticise the club before. He says Sussex supporters would be shocked to hear the real reason Orr has left the club.
Has Wells signed an NDA? If not then why doesn’t he just tell us?

I fear this is a template the guys in Comms will be returning to between now and the start of the new season……first Garton, now Orr. Who will be next to jump ship? “Everyone at Sussex Cricket would like to wish (insert name of latest disillusioned player) all the best in his career moving forward” Alan Wells has said in a tweet that it is nothing to do with money... I do know that was the case with Salt who left because the club were going no where Full Wells tweet : ”Am I the only one out there who is totally bemused by how Sussex have managed to let go one of the best young cricketers that has played for Sussex in the past several years? You would think there might be one or two questions asked - I only hope the truth is told” Probably a cut and paste from when Luke left

I echo the sentiment of the Forum. Another disaster for the club. Just when you think things can't get any worse, they do.
No doubt egged on by Ben Brown, Orr left for a higher salary and the chance to play Division 1 cricket. Can you blame him? Who wants to stay on at Sussex if you are offered a better salary elsewhere?
It is difficult to quantify what an unmitigated disaster it has been for Andrew to cut the club wages by 50% or more. We are told it was "to save the club from bankruptcy."
What complete and utter rot.
Unless the new CEO, whomever that may be, increases the player salaries, almost every single half-decent youngster will do what Orr has done, meaning that Sussex CCC has little chance of digging itself out of its present sh*t-hole.
Looking through the Sussex CCC history, I don't believe there has ever been a more disastrous CEO than Andrew. His one decision to slash the player's salaries has now led to this utterly depressing situation.

Maybe we shouldn't have steered right 2 years in to the plan. 1 year since Grub left we've lost 2 homegrown players.
Just a thought.

For any who haven’t seen it this is wells on Facebook . Sounds like those who thought this was about more than money and joining a bigger club, were right. The likes of Wells and Prior do need to be more explicit with their criticisms though. Endless innuendos get us nowhere.
Alan Wells It’s such a shame that so many think it’s a money thing - it’s not. I have coached and mentored Ali since he was 9 years old. I find it very frustrating that a Sussex born and bred cricketer would leave a club that he loves and also that no one at the club has bothered to contact me to try to dissuade him from leaving. I know exactly why Ali has left and the truth would shock many, if not all Sussex members and fans. The club has let so many players leave over the past 3 to 4 years and have always blamed something other than themselves - perhaps one day they may face up to the fact that they could have handled things so much better.
Edit : Wicked Cricket - wells commented on main Sussex FB page and on his Twitter page .

If true and it is not about money, then what Wells is hinting at, must be very serious indeed. The mind boggles at what the actual reason/s could be. Edit: Thanks yikemardy. Here is the link for others to follow. Then read the many replies to Alan Wells response. www.facebook.com/sussexccc?locale=en_GB

I just dont understand why more on here cannot accept that Orr and others have left Sussex because it is run badly I absolutely agree, it has to be the management and the way things are run. Hopefully the truth will come out.

This is terrible news. In my opinion the best of the kids and he has gone to Pantshire at the smelly toilet bowel. Doesn’t get any worse than that. And he didn't go for money. I believe Alan Wells and Matt Prior who has said the same for the last 2 years. Management should explain but they won't. You don't need to be a Sussex insider to know it's about our poor management and the lack of ambition by the club eg Andrew and Greenfield. Thank God 1 has gone. Hope the other one goes ASAP. A very sad day for the club. I very much doubt I will renew my membership now. No doubt we will replace Orr with a short term mid 30s signing like the others of Claydon Meaker Finn and Simpson.

Dreadful news. At this point I'm past being angry at players leaving. I'm disappointed at what we have become.
For me (and people will form their opinions and that's fine) but I think that the damage caused in unison by the trio of Andrew (chief culprit), Filby (very VERY close second) and Greenfield (less so, but still has to take a portion of the blame) is close to irreparable.
If what had happened had been happening in any other era we may have got away with it and just been a average team who occasionally flirt with a trophy and once every few years pick one up and take her home. However we've gone through COVID, which I accept is none of the 3 rats' fault, and now a widening of the pre existing gap between the test counties and non test counties due to a whole host of reasons for another thread.
Such drain of talent through a time like this will have long lasting, maybe forever lasting effects. Couple Orr's departure with the news that the ECB are wanting to increase the number of teams in the crisp packet cup to 10 and - more concerningly - are looking at private investment, then one has to wonder where we will be in future years.
The global game doesn't need us, the national board don't want us, the top established domestic players in the country don't want us, and now we've seen 3 examples in the past 2 years of our own homegrown players not wanting us. We are brown bread unless there is a significant shift from all of the above, which we all know there wont be. Happy Monday all.
