211 for 1 at lunch. Good to see Stiaan van Zyl score an unbeaten half century. Meanwhile, the Tom Haines roadshow carries on. Maybe, bowling out Glamorgan for 285 was a better performance than we realised.

Thomason looked solid before a sharp c&b did for him.
Can’t remember the last time I felt so relaxed watching us bat!

Good day apart from rubbish bowling from Garton. I’ve heard on the grapevine Garton has picked up an injury, don’t know what but apparently he didn’t come out after tea. That could explain the wayward bowling. I do fear that with his bowling style regular injuries are likely to occur. I would have probably "rested" him for the next match anyway.

Philh, Serious question: who will be the second Sussex player to get a ton this season?
WC: Stiaan the ManI win "my bet" when you asked on the Lancashire thread who would be the next Sussex batsman to score 100. It's got to be worth a Thai Chicken noodles dish when we meet up (if crowds are allowed in) at a home T20. Sussex: 340-6 at tea (55 ahead)No top order collapse, anymore, it's the middle order instead. PS: Garton seems fine. Perhaps, he celebrated his birthday the night before Day 1? edit: 5 batting points, 115 runs ahead and 4 wickets still remain. Wahey!

It was my first thought when Stiaan reached 100, although I don't recall anything about a bet. Can you predict a win by an innings in this game now?

That's why I wrote "my bet" in italics. This remains a placid pitch ideal for batting, so I am a little reluctant to predict "a win by an innings". Agreed our bowlers are better than Glamorgan's, even so, a win certainly... bar the weather. edit: WOW! 100 partnership. Who would have thought it. And now Ollie gains another 50. Wonderful early season memories to treasure. George out for 97... Aarghh!

Great position for Sussex.
459 - 6. Couldn't have hoped for better.

Really good character shown by Garton to score 97 after being hit around the park with the ball.

Well batted George Garton, showing his all rounder promise.
He’s definitely got an injury, some sort of bruised heel problem apparently.
GOSBTS!

No complaints about today’s performance. As joe said, for long periods, it was very relaxing to watch. I missed much of van Zyl’s knock but Garton batted well and deserved his maiden hundred. As I always seem to say, a good session in the morning and we should be well on our way. It seems, though, that the batsmen that get in are hard to budge.
