Take a bow Ollie Robinson. Career best of 9/78
154 to win with a minimum of 51 overs left in the day.
C’mon Sussex!

Haines back in the hut. We don't need any spectacular performances from Mr Hogan today.

No problemo. Eight wickets or so, as predicted.
Good start to the season, well done Sussex, everybody contributing, pretty much.

Brilliant stuff! Thomason what a transformation of a player. For posterity: Will we see us topping the Group again in 2021?

I realised (yet again) today that’s why I love the red ball game. At lunch, I could see the game ending in a draw. Then, Ollie struck. Another ten overs of Glamorgan batting might have meant another 30-40 runs and it would have been tight. Then, Hogan takes the wicket of our in-form opener cheaply. Then, it’s ok until Stiaan is out. Two more wickets and it’s going to be a struggle. Less than an hour later, I can open a bottle of beer and watch us glide serenely to victory. What a day! And, of course 10 out of 10 for our vice captain - 13 wickets and an innings that, in retrospect, made all the difference. Bring on Yorkshire.

The job description for a county cricket media person is: "Weekends are often the busiest two days of the week." For Sam Keir, when you're winning, bring it on!

Glamorgan will bat until tea and it will end in a draw as with the exception of Robinson our bowling attack is toothless. How did that turn out?

Well said .... the moaning and armchair captaincy this afternoon has been very disappointing - anyone would think we were 60 ahead with five wickets in hand. Aren’t we supposed to be supporters ? I think we can rest our case...😉👍🔵🟡⚪️

Although before the game it looked like a match that we had a chance of winning, who would have expected us to have batted so well. With the obvious exception of Robinson, (supported by Carson & Crocombe) our bowling was slightly laboured at times, but credit to us, we bowled them out twice and won by 8 wickets. Doesn't get much better.
Good contributions from most of the team in the last couple of games.
Credit to Brown, & the coaching staff for the current positive attitude.

I hope the squad celebrated their win on the team bus. They deserved it. Now the dust has settled, there are some aspects of the win to consider. Can Robinson keep taking so many wickets? I hope so. However, the squad need to prepare for his absence when his deserved England call up is announced. Will Salisbury continue with the rotation of Crocombe and Hunt? Based on recent form maybe both should play; at the expense of Meaker? Both Rawlins and Carson bowled economically; but we need to remember that on day 3 Glamorgan were happy to just not get out and run down the clock. A true test for the spinners is still to come. Who is our go to medium pacer? Clarke, Van Zyl? If Haines and Thomason not bowling support their current good opening batting form;carry on. I agree with other members that Brown has a lot on his plate with the Captaincy and keeping role. Of course he will have game plans for various situations, sometimes these are not clear for the armchair supporter.Bowling changes and field positions have always been the subject of lively spectator debate.
I look forward to the live coverage from Hove this Thursday. High standards of online coverage have been set by Lancashire and Glamorgan so far. Keep up the good form Sussex.

The back-up seamer is an interesting one, and by back-up I presume you mean 5th seamer? The team for the opening games has been quite remarkable in that all 10 outfield players (lazily nicking a football term there) can bowl to a standard that wouldn’t raise any eyebrows when they’re brought on. I guess the question is who’s the best out of Haines/Thomason/Clark/Van Zyl to be the sixth bowler. Sometimes captains just have a hunch.
As for the frontline seamers, hate to say it but Meaker does look a bit ordinary at times. If he was still sending it down at 90-plus mph like in his younger days, you could forgive him being a bit expensive if he then produces something lethal to knock over a couple of wickets. Saying that, it may be that he’s seen as being key due to his experience, otherwise Robinson plus 3 youngsters would be quite an inexperienced attack. I’m only second guessing the captain and coach’s thinking here, but otherwise it does seem an awful lot for Robinson to shoulder. I take it Jordan won’t be back till after the IPL?
