What ever anyone thinks finishing 18th out of 18 simply is not good enough something needs sorting out and it should start at the top Someone has to finish last, but itβs the way we subsided, and the departure of most senior players, and the unhappiness of so many members, and the disconnect Iβm picking up between management and members on here that is the issue. Iβm thinking of becoming a member next year but I donβt want to pay over a large sum to watch half a dozen losses against other poor third div sides.

I am with andyb on this.
Away from cricket I am a Fulham fan. Great club in a lovely part of London and a super ground. But we are a small club at least compared to the big clubs in the Premiership. Over the years we have had some famous wins against the big clubs but realistically we know that we cannot compete with them over a long season. We now have an 18 year old player who is getting rave reviews and being linked with all the top clubs. We know that sooner or later he will leave. This is not because we have treated him badly but simply because top players want to play for top clubs. It seems as though in cricket the gap between the rich counties and the poorer counties is growing. Realistically we cannot compete with the Test match ground counties for top talent. Rather than being angry with Sussex I feel angry that the gap seems to be growing ever wider and that the powers that be in cricket are allowing that to happen. On another note if Adams is such a great coach why has he been out of the game for so long?

Especially as they've won the Premiership 3 times in the last 20 years, presumably. Why don't you clarify who your boss is Andyb? Then people will get a better understanding of what you say.

May as well just pack it all in, if weβre just a feeder club now. Not only must the club love your posts, but now the ECB as well.

At least this is a bit more encouraging - overseas batsman is essential and an absolute minimum. Overseas bowler will provide the experience needed as well too a young attack. Not sure if heβs implying another batsman in addition as well. Itβs what we need, senior players coming in, www.theargus.co.uk/sport/19601591.amp/ I haven't got a problem with Salisbury and Kirtley, other than some dumb looking selections. The most notable being Ward in the T20 team when he couldn't get passed several better 50 over players in the RL team. Balance seems to be a common mistake but that's more debatable. I hope they do stay on, and they get their targets for next year. The team looks a good one to me with the right signings brought in. Happy to reserve judgement, as is his wish. It's the direction from the office wallows that bothers me.

No. However, there is a much greater hierarchy in cricket now. The IPL and England sit well above the counties albeit in different ways. The Hundred has brought in a new tier. The result is that the counties themselves are likely to split into two, maybe three, tiers. This has been a gradual process and, to some extent, explains why players move around more these days rather than mostly sticking with one county for their career. I expect there to be more movement by players between counties, tournaments, formats and their priorities as opportunities broaden for the players.

Several on here saying that we are losing players because they want more money and play for a bigger county. Most of senior players that left before this season did so because not wanted by Sussex. Salt has not gone to Lancashire for money. Maybe earning a little more but like Jordon majority of earnings are from playing 20/20 tournaments which is there whatever county they play for. Obvious in Salts case prefers to play in a more competitive side and can see from Burgess,Briggs and Wells that this can be the right thing to do. From my point of view can be no excuse for apart from a couple of very good county players putting in front of paying public a side that was no more than good club standard

I am not happy with what is happening but I think it is a much bigger problem than simply blaming it on Salisbury and Kirtley. The politics of cricket are not favouring the smaller clubs. And anyway I get a lot of pleasure (and frustration!) from watching Fulham even though I know we are never going to win the Premiership.

Oh no Iβm not blaming it on the coaches, itβs higher up we have issues, though there have to be some question marks over selection for some CC games this season.
Yes I expect weβll yo-yo back up this season!π
