An excellent morning. With Robinson and Garton back we are a competitive and decent side again.
May it last.

Brilliant day so far for Sussex, but could have been even better. I would like to understand how Simpson was not given out lbw to Robinson? It looked a really good appeal on the live stream.

When you look at Rizwans quality behind the the stumps, you realise what we were missing for a few years. Browny was a great batter but not even half the WK Rizwan is.

Is Robinson only allowed to bowl a certain amount of overs? He gets Simpson out and is taken off after 3 overs!!!

Did he have a plan before the 5 year plan, and was it to decimate Sussex CCC for the rebuild? Speak for yourself. I suspect Robinson is under ECB restrictions and without him we have a problem, even with a fully fit side. The plan's got a problem. We're going off for bad light at 11.20am so the whole damn game has a problem. This is pathetic.

Robinson takes yet another fifer. What a breath of fresh air. What a bowler!

After the completion of two innings, I have to confess to having very mixed feelings.
Prior to the commencement of the match against one of the better sides in the Division with a stronger more experienced squad and much greater resources, who you would naturally expect to be one of the favourites for promotion, I would have happily taken a draw.
However, at 225-1 at one point in our innings and having them at 45-4 is it unreasonable for me to be feeling we have missed a real opportunity in this match?
Should we have scored nearer 500 than 400 and should we have had them all out for 100 or so less? Perhaps on another day if those catches had been held by Pujara and Hunt or we had got the rub of the green with a very good shout for lbw against Simpson when he was on just 3 we may now be looking at a very different scenario.
Again, we seemed to reach a point where the game just meandered and we were completely devoid of any real ideas. I still have concerns whether we are over burdening Haines and there isn't a better alternative for the role of Captain at present. Additional evidence of control on the pitch is again our poor over rate, which could cost us further deducted points that we can ill afford to lose.
I can't help feeling that once we finally do win a game, a second and third win will soon follow, but at present we just seem to have forgotten how to press home an advantage and most importantly win games of Cricket.
I felt before play even started this morning, the key would be how we bat in our second innings. We have been here so many times before where we compete for two days and then capitulate in the second innings with a monumental batting collapse.
I seriously hope I am wrong, but as I type this Orr goes for a duck. This already has that deja vu feeling.

7-2, both openers out for a duck, Alsop just dropped on nought and Afridi charging in with the new ball.
😩😩😩😩😭😭😭😭
Someone really needs to step up.

I always want another 50 runs and another wicket or two in our favour, but it doesn’t always happen. If I disagree on anything, I think this game is the first time for a while when we have tried to impose ourselves on the opposition. For me, this game rams home the fact that we need a wicket taker because it’s likely we won’t see much of Ollie unless he flunks it with England.

We have been here so many times before where we compete for two days and then capitulate in the second innings with a monumental batting collapse. I seriously hope I am wrong, but as I type this Orr goes for a duck. This already has that deja vu feeling. I felt the same things but that’s cricket whether you support a good side or a bad side. Absolutely agree Phil. Fortunately my fears of another third innings wobble were unfounded. An outstanding team performance against very strong opposition. As you rightly point out we need a wicket taker, as without Robinson the attack looks below strength and I can't see us bowling many sides out twice. Prior to this match, Haines is currently top of the bowling averages followed by Clark!! For fear of repeating myself for me this situation has arisen due to the poor handling of the Brown situation. The Club should have stood firm and insisted he honoured his contract. The precious second overseas spot could have then been used for a top class wicket taking bowler. Substitute Rizwan for Brown, add in that bowler and you have the missing piece of the jigsaw. On the rare occasions Robinson is available (or should we say allowed to play), you double the bowling threat. We would have even had the opportunity to continue developing Carter, which would have pleased Liquid. The real irony of course is that Rizwan would appear to have been recruited to strengthen the batting, but with Pujara, the development of Clark and Alsop all scoring freely, his runs certainly up to now haven't been needed. The management regularly get criticism on this forum, but whoever was responsible for the recruitment of Pujara deserves serious credit. An outstanding signing. Finally, I dared to suggest ahead of the last match that the top six pick themselves, only for one poster to suggest Alsop should be back at Hants. Alsop has scored 66, 113 and 66 in his last three innings and currently averages just under 34. This would have probably been far higher if it wasn't for a couple of questionable lbw's and being run out by Haines on the road at Derby. Add the fact he bats at 3 and has come in at some high pressure situations, although early days this also starting to look a pretty good signing. Come on Liquid, not only has he done enough, but there is roomfor him and Carter who I also rate highly.
