Yeah….FHP is an all-rounder and Carter a keeper-batsman, specialist batting still stops at 4. I’m talking about specialist batting. Carter played and kept and batted 5 in the last game - again, just looks too light. How many games has Hinley played? And as for two more youngsters - that’s not depth is it. I thought we were agreed that we shouldn’t have a team just full of kids all at the same time? Your back-up should always be kids & we have four proper bat back-ups if we promote two of the best - Coles, Hinley, C-L & Rogers. The point is that if we don't have two OS bowlers we will never win a game. That's how much it's needed. In an ideal world we'd make Vince our Adams & get two OS but I'm talking about priorities. An OS bat is not priority. Look at the season man. Look at all the games, have we even bowled anyone out? We play at Hove. I think you're being short-sighted & reactive to be honest Ash. Unless your happy drawing all the time? 600 plays 500 at Hove? No thanks. Well I think we’d all happily take a draw from the current game… Not reactive at all, other than we needed two overseas batsmen at the start of the season and I now think we might be ok with only one😉. |

It's going bad to worse ,they will be asking members to cough up again after another season of no ambition no idea ,no plan.i cant believe we have not one person give any explanation from an abject performance.]Will someone stand up and offer any sort of comment from Sussex.

I don’t agree that it’s going from bad to worse. There’s some very good things going on. The youngsters look generally good to me. Unfortunately, there’s an imbalance between promising batters and bowlers. It makes things difficult to judge when Finn H-P and Garton have hardly played all season. I don’t think it’s been easy for the powers-that-be this year. However, as liquidskin occasionally says (ahem) we do need to bowl teams out. I’ve written off Robinson and Archer so it needs to be addressed. We either need two good overseas bowlers or one good overseas and a proven county bowler. I think we should wave money at a solid county bowler because Pujara is a joy to watch and gives Haines the space to focus on what we know he is good at. Apologies for ending on a preposition. |

Yes Sponge, get ones that have just left the international scene, like Ishant. I notice on the SCCC website two match reviews & an injury update on Crocombe that are all so threadbare it's bizarre. No quotes, coaches, players, whatever. Something is very wrong or very right - hopefully 97 is about to happen. They can't go on like this. Spot on Liquid. The Durham website had more information on our team than we did, and they posted it on the day of the Funeral. Embarrassing really, very wrong or very right, if we are a rudderless ship, the website and lack of information for supporters needs to be addressed. Why aren't we seeing end of day interviews with Adrian Harmse and someone in the management? Some simple questions for him to ask: 1. Why was Rawlins not selected in this squad? 2. Why were Currie and FHP not picked in this game? 3. Are we trying to wind Ollie Carter up? 4. What are we doing to address the lack of bowling ability? 5. How is George Garton? What are his winter plans? Anything I missed? |

Thanks Joe. Doesn't sound good. Like Flower, he has a no nonsense approach and says it the way it is. Harmes, as usual doesn't ask or is told not to ask key questions. He still hasn't got over the Ben Brown debacle. |

With regards the dodgy umpire decisions yesterday, if you get your bat on it it takes LBW out of the equation. The Ibrahim wicket was plumb in front.
And they’re off for rain.

A couple of damning indictments of the captaincy by Flower there. In about 90 seconds he already sounds much smarter & stronger than anyone else has sounded all year. Give him the top job before another county sees his work & our woes. He's a proper tough astute man. Was a top player too.

Yeah we need 2 strike bowlers Phil, if we can get that & keep Pujara then we're in dream land. I'm a realist though, can only see us getting them the OS way.
Unless the evil is rooted out & the necessary top to bottom changes are made this year.

The good news is, under the new ECB proposals, we wouldn’t have to play Durham and go through the same pain again. With a second division north and a second division south, it would be like football when I was born! Is this progress? Subject for a different thread I guess.
