We are awful aren’t we. I can’t believe there is one team worse than us tbh Thank Derbyshire for their generous declaration earlier in the season, otherwise we would be going into the last game trying to avoid yet another wooden spoon without a solitary victory to show for the entire season. 54 point gap between us and seventh, although that may reduce slightly depending on the outcome of Durham's 'batgate'. We and Leicestershire are well adrift, forget any thoughts of Division One Cricket for a few seasons. All we need now is someone coming on here telling us it is all part of a longer term plan and in a few year's we will be world beaters. At least we strung it out until after lunch. |

Or probably for much longer than that if division one is reduced to six teams, as per the ECB proposals. Would be extremely difficult for non Test ground counties to reach the top table and stay there for more than one season. The wealthy teams will be constantly raiding the rest for emerging talent

I dunno Squarebob, why's that different from now? You just need a bit of luck on produce whoever you are. Then you need to be managed well and the sky's your oyster, or whatever. One out of two ain't bad.
We're not being managed by anyone so we're really on the back foot. If we can just get over that hurdle of having a coach at our games we might well be onto something one of these days.

Having conferred with Sponge’s pants, my answer is that with only one promotion place each year, plus with stronger opposition (given that 4 of the existing top 10 sides would be relegated) the chances of promotion would diminish considerably :-)
