“Telegraph jumped the gun. Journalist in question has previous beef with RA. ECB yet to make a decision on the appointment.
RA is one of the front runners but the appointment isn’t nailed on.
He would also have to give 6 months notice to Sussex . “
This has appeared on North Stand Chat.
It does seem strange that only the Telegraph has reported this story !

It's actually really poor journalism from someone constantly attacking the regime who works closely with Matt Prior

It's actually really poor journalism from someone constantly attacking the regime who works closely with Matt Prior It will only be really poor journalism if it turns out to be wrong. As the article correctly named the person appointed head of recreational cricket that suggests the leak has come from the ECB end, rather than the Sussex end. The journalist has his reputation at stake, so I assume he will have got his information from a reliable source.

This isnt a huge story and doesnt necessarily need releasing to public view until he has officially handed his notice in, so yeah i do believe it is poor journalism whether it is true or not. I never said the leak came from the Sussex end i just said Will Macpherson has very close links to Matt Prior and a lot of last years article came from hear say from Prior, the NDA terminology is the biggest clue. Either way this leak hasnt been helpful to us as a club and that should be the biggest concern.

I’m inclined to believe the article as there’s nearly always no smoke without fire. No doubt Andrew is annoyed because he would have liked to slip away without having to face any criticism. He’s not called teflon for nothing. I hope he’s already cleared his locker out and closed the door behind him.

He’s not called teflon for nothing. I hope he’s already cleared his locker out and closed the door behind him. Spot on. Just look at the comments on Will Macpherson's social media post when he first broke the story. Also look at how Andrew has managed communications whilst at Sussex. Of course he wants everything he does to be as privately as possible to avoid any criticism, the rat. This absolutely is a big story that is worthy of being in the public eye. The ECB appointing a new MD of domestic men's cricket (given how quickly the landscape of the sport is changing) is something which will impact most stakeholder's of the game in this country and is definitely a big story. Macpherson is one of the best journo's that covers the game in this country. He's very close to a lot of players - domestically and internationally - and often breaks news which is confirmed to be true. Just in the past week or so he's broke that Boland was going to Durham before it was confirmed. Given he wrote an excellent piece on Sussex in November 2022 which included quotes from numerous stakeholders of Sussex past and present, I'd trust his judgement ahead of a lot of other people's. Good journalists that have existing relations within/around a club/board/organisation don't break stories of this nature unless they're absolutely certain of something happening. Give it time, it will come. Not officially confirmed yet so we still have the Andrew out at the end of each post. Andrew out.

Certianly is a huge story, and it has been helpful for improving morale and hope among the supporters. It's the human element i'm thinking off. A very good friend of mine said to me, would you rather the club remain in million pounds of debt which would have inevitably led to a mass cull of players or make incredibly tough decisions at a time which seemed most sensible to leave the club with no debt at all but we will be unable to compete for a few years in most of the competitions. No brainer for me, the long term future of the club is paramount and John i'm very surprised with your Crawley links you cant see that.

Macpherson is one of the best journo's that covers the game in this country…This Rob Andrew story is genuine if it comes from Will Macpherson. He is viewed as one of the best, if not the best young cricket journalist coming through the ranks. Back in 2016, he was named the Christopher Martin-Jenkins Young County Journalist of the Year and received a £3,000 prize to fund a week-long trip to the UAE in 2017 to report on cricket. His past writing jobs include ESPNCricinfo, Guardian, Evening Standard and presently the Daily Telegraph. Now in his early 30s, Macpherson has every opportunity to take over the Nick Hoult mantle. He is also a published book author. www.telegraph.co.uk/authors/w/wf-wj/will-macpherson/Imho, that major feature he posted last November about the decline of Sussex CCC was one of the best researched cricket articles I read last year. It came from the heart and I would suggest the Club is close to his affections. Macpherson has a number of contacts at the county, and given how unpopular Andrew has become, it is very likely he would have been “tipped off” by someone in the know. (Credit: Getty Images)Meanwhile, he is popular on social media with over 30,000 followers on Twitter. Why would Macpherson sabotage such a promising career with fake news? The Andrew revelation is a great scoop, imho. No wonder our soon to be ex-CEO is upset. He wanted to leave Sussex in secret without any hullabaloo. Instead, the many negative comments from supporters via social media, this Forum and North Stand Chat, only shows what a failure he has been. Andrew will take these failings to the ECB with much to prove.

Rob is clearly part of the process and very likely to be announced this week. 1 thing i know for a fact which isnt conjecture is that he wanted to do the right thing by his staff before he left and thats why i think he is annoyed at the leak. Im sure Will MacPherson is a very good journalist as your stern defence of him suggests but he would do better for himself distancing himself from Matt Prior. I had a beer last night with a former Police Sargent that told me a very interesting story about Matt Prior which confirmed my opinion of the geezer.

Mixed feelings on this, i thought he did an outstanding job levelling the finances and delivering phase one, disappointed hes leaving a job very much half done.
Yes i would have liked to have seen more onfield success but his successor is blessed that they wont be hated from the start and have zero debt to walk into and a squad ready to compete for promotion next season.
