www.telegraph.co.uk/cricket/2023/10/22/rob-andrew-ecb-cricket-role-executive-sussex-ccc/We've done it. We've put up with dross players, even worse signings, awful communication, some of the highest ticket and membership prices in the country, relationship scandals involving the head coach's daughter, and many other things which I can't remember in the excitement right now. We've made it this far, put up with so much and this is our reward. Well done to everyone who has stuck with the club during these years. I hate the "where were you when we were ****" mentality, but we really do deserve better than what Andrew and his cronies served up. Here's to our once great club getting back to where it should be. GOSBTS.

You couldn’t make this up.
A former England rugby star, then an influential leader of the RFU administration, leaves the sport for a completely different one. Then destroys a highly respected and former very successful county cricket club with a long and rich heritage, only to be given a top job at the ECB.
Failure is richly and cynically rewarded. TEFLON DON does it again!

Unbelievable that he has landed such a plum job with the ECB, but thankfully Sussex are the beneficiaries. Best news of the year as far as Sussex ccc is concerned. GOSBTS!

Rob is following in the footsteps of the CEO of the ECB Richard Gould. Who after a successful military career via Sandhurst , was CEO at Bristol City , then changed sports and went to Somerset, Surrey before joining the ECB.
One of Sussex’s former CEO Gus Mackay left Sussex for Surrey, then joined Harlequins and Worcester rugby clubs.
Believe it’s common for administrators to swap sports , businesses. Rob, did get blues for cricket at Camb Uni, so is a first class cricket.
Lord MacLaurin, was CEO of Vodafone and Tescos before becoming CEO of the ECB.

The difference between Richard Gould and Rob Andrew is Richard Gould is actually good at his job Squeaky is without doubt one of the worst appointments in this clubs history, closely followed by when we made grubby director of cricket! What on earth were we thinking

Mixed feelings about this one, im no lover of Rob Andrew but I really do believe this is unnecessary upheaval at a critical time for bringing in new players.
Maybe thats another reason to be criticial of his reign, overseen several failures then when we need him to step up the most and help secure 3 or 4 more key signings whichll shape our future he ***s off.
The difficulty now is finding the right person to replace him.

This has made my day……….sorry year!!!
Why should every Sussex fan rejoice in this news………… we have our club back. Success isn’t guaranteed, but NDA’s, lack of communication and an Andrew or no way approach will be a thing of the past.
YES, YES, YES! He’s GONE

People are missing the obvious, hes going to have the biggest say in the future structure of County Cricket.
Conference systems will soon be in place! This is bad news all round because while he may have left us this appointment is another nail in the coffin for the game we love.

Like others, I thought Andrew was a great appointment for the Club. Former Chairman, Jim May, told me that everything was done to choose the right candidate after Zac Toumazi decided to leave, including an outside non-partisan body overseeing the interviews. Andrew was considered the best candidate by all and asunder. I even had the privilege of interviewing him several times. I was impressed too.
At first, it went well. He sacked Davis and brought in Jason Gillespie, which at the time, some thought was an act of left-field genius. That first year under Dizzy's auspice, we reached the T20 Final and came close to promotion to Division 1. And then Covid struck. Since then it has been downhill, led by Andrew's almost obsessive vision to lead the Club with the youngsters.
Was it a financial decision? Probably. Youngsters are cheap and easily managed. The old guard had to go, used to competitive county wages first brought about by former banker, Jim May. Andrew was concerned by the Club's finances from day 1.
By applying for the ECB job back in the summer, Andrew must have known his days at Sussex were numbered. His experiment wasn't working. And his legacy? Apart from the obvious negatives, the new apartment block, perhaps, is a positive, but how the various development phases will pan out now is anyone's guess. There are still a number to follow. These include a new staff office block; conference and event centre; new and improved seating for spectators at the north end of the Ground; supported by updated bars, toilets and refreshment facilities; while the existing hospitality rooms in the south east corner are to be replaced with new seating stands. Will any of this now occur?
Meanwhile, the club is still left with two influential diehards, the present Chairman and Keith Greenfield, both loyal to the last and Sussex through and through. The Chair has a major influence over who the new CEO will be.
Let's wait and see.

I see it as one down two to go. My hope is that Greenfield and Filby will follow Andrew out the door. Just because you are “ Sussex through and through” doesn’t make you the best man/woman for the job. Clean sweep is what’s needed.
