So Hughes will be twiddling his thumbs for the next month while we possibly struggle in the one day cup. Very odd. If it’s finances, maybe the expected gate receipts for the quarter final could pay him for a month ?

Great signing I’d have thought if he’d wanted a Hundred contract he’d have been offered one by now. He’s had a long season, so he may just want a break.

Hard to ignore his runs in the blast and hes here and probably cheap so a no brainer for any of the franchises really. Albeit on a very short term basis.

On commentary Mills said he’s going to the Olympics tomorrow. I presume to watch rather than compete, unless he’s a dab hand at the javelin

Riddle me this - how did both county cricket and the Australian selectors bypass Daniel Hughes for so long? The guy is a multiformat run machine.

I suppose you only have to go back a few months on this and the other board it wasnt met with huge excitement but thats more to do with the unknown quantity. His innings against Northants first up even though it was only 35 what impressed me was how he was always trying to find a way to counter the conditions in front of him. He's never going to be selected for Australia now so im hoping a long term contract is offered to him.

Yes that is excellent news. Presumably that means we won’t see Pujara next year though or quite likely ever again. If that’s the case it’s a shame we weren’t able to give a big send off to an all time great.

Excellent news!!! As you say SP, probably means no more Pujara, but from a "team requirements" perspective, having an opening batsman spot sorted is the preferrable option, as Clark/Carter can bat in the middle order.

I echo the Thread. Fantastic news. I am presuming Hughes is opening for us in the T20 QF?
