You must not question Head Boy - he's one of us.Now here’s one headboy I wish the England team had. Just think of all that spooky paranormal fun the England team could get up to. We would win the Ashes at an eery breeze as the Australians spontaneously combust on the pitch whilst translucent inter- dimensional flying objects streak overhead. www.youtube.com/watch?v=v_z-8xFd85QMeanwhile, the X-Files is back next year with Duchovny and Anderson who have returned older and wiser alongside a new six-episode mini-series on Fox. Duchovny says he cried when reading the first script which he describes as being “fantastic”. But the most shocking paranormal revelation of all is not that Mulder is a pescetarian or been cured of his sex addiction but a musician and reincarnation of Bob Dylan’s muse who has written all his own songs and released an album called ‘Hell or Highwater’. It has even been given a rave review in ‘Rolling Stone’. www.rollingstone.com/music/premieres/hear-david-duchovnys-song-inspired-by-bob-dylans-super-bowl-ad-20150505 Probably the most tenuous link in the short but illustrious history of this forum, fluffy!

The One Day squad just announced:
England ODI squad: Morgan, Billings, Buttler, Finn, Hales, Jordan, Plunkett, Rashid, Root, Roy, Stokes, Taylor, Willey, Wood
Matches are on June 6, 9, 12, 14, 17 and 20 with a T20 on 23rd.
Sussex matches Jordan may well miss are championship games v Hants (7-10 June) and v Durham (15-18 June); T 20 v Essex (12), Surrey (14) Hampshire (19) and Galmorgan (21).
As for the team, shame that they've picked Billings and Taylor when they seem to be out of form - Taylor particularly as a potential captain - and Plunkett who has been cooling his heels, one way and another since April. Wood, Root, Stokes and Buttler are obvious choices after the Test series and good luck to the others, may they make the most of their chance and impress.

Meanwhile at Edgbaston England are 123/2 off 17. A good partnership being built between Root and Morgan ( 73 at time of writing )Real intent and attack being shown by both teams. Good cricket to watch!

Taylor should be in the team ahead of Billings! I'm a big fan of Billings but I have to agree with that. It was a strange selection as he's been totally out of form this season and has a top score of 46 in 18 innings across both formats. And he's been getting out repeatedly as he did this afternoon - playing across the line. Thought he'd got away with it when the ump gave him not out; but on the review it was hitting middle. If they are going to play him as a batsman only, you'd think there must be at least a dozen players that should be ahead of him in the queue - including Billings' own Kent team mate Sam Northeast. If they want a reserve keeper, Jonny Bairstow is batting better than at any time in his career right now, according to comments I read this week from both Boycott and Jason Gillespie.

Unfortunately they rather goat-mouthed Bairstow as he was out for a duck in the second innings. Although he and Williamson were superb at Scarborough last year.

Can't you see the positives instead of always moaning and finding negative things to say? Everyone wanted England to make changes and play positive, attacking cricket, which they are doing!

I think the plan was for Willey to play at 7 but he got a niggle, so they went for Billings' hitting rather than Taylor. I think they made the right call, Taylor would really need to bat up the order but I'm happy with the top 6 they've picked here.
Ton for Buttler, brilliant stuff. Where was this England team Mr Moores?

I'm loving this New England, hats off to Farbrace, yes there will be ups and downs but gosh, this is some improvement. I'm glad you said that Mrs D, because I was also thinking that there is no way England would have played like that under the dead hand of the plodding Moores regime. Just 108 days ago we were all out for 123 v NZ in the world cup under Moores' baleful (mis)direction. The first ODI post-Moores we score 400 for the first time ever in England's history and hit the most sixes by England in a one day game ever. Botham has just said it was all about "commitment and belief". And that has to be down to Farbrace. So does anyone still think Strauss was wrong to sack Moores? May be his error was in not offering Farbrace the job full-time!

Just watched the last half of our innings this afternoon. What an absolute treat! A fantastic partnership between Buttler and Rashid, and several ODI records tumbling. It looked as if our batsmen had been given a massive injection of confidence and enthusiasm since they last played an ODI. No coincidence that Moores isn't there anymore. However, let's not celebrate until both teams have batted, especially with this NZ team.

England batted superbly. The only thing is I don't see Billings as a specialist batsmen of international repute. He hasn't scored any runs for Kent as Borderman eluded to. Taylor must be the unluckiest cricketer on the county circuit when it comes to international selection. Is McCullum the most over hyped cricketer in international cricket? He rarely comes off. Guptill, Williamson, Taylor, Elliott and Ronchi need to score big for them to have any chance.

No I'm not getting carried away, yes we could still lose, yes NZ are a great odi team, the thing is if we do lose we would have been competitive and entertaining in losing, and that is the big improvement.
