Play now abandoned for the day at Southampton, probably eliminating the slim chance of them getting a win against Yorkshire. Not so. Declarations by Yorkshire and Hampshire mean that Hampshire could very well get the result they need. Let's hope Yorkshire roll over for us next week. I fear the worst if all their test players return.

By my calculations, assuming we draw against Somerset, the points tally tonight will be:
Sussex 156 (min) - 159 (max) Somerset 154 (min) - 159 (max) Hants 141 (min) - 157 (max) Worces 127 (min) - 143 (max)
We really need to pick up our 3 bowling points.

Disastrous declaration by Yorks.

Which is precisely why we should have played 5 bowlers.

Both sides currently sleepwalking but if Joyce doesnt try something not in the approved list of tactics Somerset will overhaul on bonus points.

Presumably Somerset would like to get to 400 for 2 and declare.

Have Yorkshire been given a large brown paper bag at the Ageas Bowl? What the hell is going on? What kind of declaration is that? They have gifted Hampshire a potential win by declaring first. An appalling decision! Talk about a blatant connivance. Shouldn't there be a stewards enquiry? Especially when Yorkshire have already won the Championship and have nothing lose. Will be a squeaky bum spectacle to follow by Sussex supporters this afternoon on SKY particularly when Yorkshire were 37-3 earlier. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/scorecard/ECKO38144

Did we not do the same back in 2009 at Worcestershire and with it consign Glamorgan to a lifetime in Division 2. Fully supported the action at the time as New Road is certainly a far better spend for four days than the Swalec.

I was very worried when I saw the shenanigans at Southampton this morning, but Yorkshire did us a favour as Hampshire's gamble has cost them 7 points. We just need Durham to do their bit now.

Good on Hants and Yorks.
I know Surrey were several points ahead of Lancs but Christ on a bike, what a negative declaration - 200 odd ahead on first innings, 280 declared second, they reduced Lancs to 190-7 off 85 odd by the end. There's playing it safe and there's just being silly. Even Joyce & Robbo would have been a touch more positive. Hope Surrey lose their last game and Lancs win.

With hindsight it was a cock up on a grand scale by Hampshire as they not only tossed away two bowling points but also five draw points which would have left Sussex needing 16 points rather than nine.

They could have saved their season. It was a massive call, a positive gamble and I applaud them - Yorks wouldn't have cared less I guess. That rhymed and everybody knows it did, admit it.
