Sussex have won the toss and are bowling - but cricinfo only shows 10 men playing! Sussex Team LWP Wells, MH Yardy, MW Machan, EC Joyce*, CD Nash, LJ Wright, BC Brown†, A Shahzad, SJ Magoffin, TE Linley
On edit: Sussex tweet shows the omission to be of Dockrell.

I'm sure everyone will feel good about getting out there and playing some cricket again after yesterday's abandonment.
Same for Surrey who seem to have brought Solanki in for I think his first game of the season to replace Burns at Guildford.
As for Sussex, fair to say Hobden and Hudson-Prentice have been dropped and Robinson rested?

Yes, there is a One-day Trophy game against Essex at Southend today, and then a 3-day starting tomorrow. Rested could also be taken as : rested from the physical and emotional wear and tear of 20 overs a day championship cricket for Robinson, and a chance to work on problems away from the spotlight for Hobden.

What happened to the turgid Arundel pitch on which it is supposed to be impossible to play shots? Durham have set off at seven runs an over!
Interesting that Joyce has turned to Nash rather than Dockrell for the first taste of spin...

Maybe he just wanted a right hander to bowl to the lefthanders Borthwick and Stoneman?

Three down might curb Durham's acceleration a bit.

The inevitable happens, we include Shahzad as part of a four man attack, and he breaks down after only four overs

In the absence of Shahzad, who alarmingly went off just after 11.30 and has not reappeared, Joyce has compensated by using seven bowlers before lunch - including Luke Wright, whom I thought had officially given up bowling!

Surely Shahzad was road-tested thoroughly before making his comeback? Or doesn't it work like that?

Well you have to wonder, if he wasn't deemed fit enough to bowl four overs yesterday He bowled four overs this morning and had to leave the field. if he'd bowled those four overs yesterday presumably the problem would have become apparent then and Ollie Robinson could have taken his place today. Instead we've had to turn to Luke Wright as the third seamer on his first bowl of the season. The way Sussex's karma is going, it's not hard to imagine Wright now tearing his under-prepared bowling muscles and then not being able to bat. This would appear to be a problem that might have been prevented. But what do we know? All we do is gripe from the sidelines about issues we don't understand blah blah blah...

I'm no philosophy student, so can someone please tell me whether karma is sometimes self-inflicted?
