Any chance of Wells, Yardy and Machan actually scoring some meaningful runs in this game? Our batting averages are poor. Do we have a full-time batting coach? HH - How can you leave out Machan when he is top of the batting averages? The only person Cachopa might replace is Wells or Yardy. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/teams/sussex/averagesThose two contrasting paragraphs made me laugh CP, cheers. Here's a good example of a thought I'm left with all too often this season, good song too - www.youtube.com/watch?v=DDTvLldOgZs Hopefully Machan and Joyce can replicate some earlier form together.

A great big 24 for the 3rd wicket from Machan and Joyce, bringing the season's average for that wicket up to a thumping 16.
It's not just one or two batsmen who are temporarily out of form, or the incidence of less-than-perfect wickets giving them the heebie-jeebies. This is the dismal pattern of the heart of the middle-order of a First Division Championship county in a largely dry spring and early summer:
5 Yardy, Joyce 23 Nash, Joyce 31 Machan, Cachopa 3 Joyce, Cachopa 0 Joyce, Cachopa 36 Machan, Cachopa 14 Yardy, Joyce 2 Yardy, Joyce 40 Wells, Finch 4 Joyce, Finch 23 Machan, Nash 8 Wells, Nash 14 Yardy, Joyce 7 Yardy, Joyce 24 Machan, Joyce
Something is very wrong here for so many to fail so abysmally on every kind of wicket against every kind of opposition. I don't care if its the Team Manager, the rest of the coaching staff or the captain, but someone has to stop hiding away from the truth and work out what's wrong and take decisive action to fix it.
And while I was writing that we are now 64-4.

Currently 131/7 - only another 21 to avoid the follow-on! US Forces have a word that sums up the Sussex supporters position - BOHICA - bend over, here it comes again. Edit: 135/8 at lunch. Might be best to follow on and lose the match in two days thus enabling a couple of days of golf.

Top scorer Dockrell. Top wicket-taker Linley. Is there some illegal betting syndicate at work?

And top partnership Dockrell/Linley. Heads should roll.

If only we could bat!
Mags removes both openers in the first 5 deliveries...

If we bowl them out for 100, we'll still lose.

We seem incapable of pressing home an advantage with either bat or ball. 13/4 becomes 131/5 in 37 overs.

If a horse was performing as badly as the Sussex batsmen are it would get shot!
Extra batting practice until the problem is rectified (24-7 if needs be). Time for batsmen to be paid according to the number of runs they score.
Playing with freedom? More like batting like a dick!

Interestingly, 23 of the 26 wickets to have fallen so far in this match were to the bowler at the Castle End.
I was there today, and lost count of the number of edges. Mags was on fire at the start of Durham's 2nd innings.
Our batting was predictable - Dockrell (37 no) was the only batsmen to score more than 23! Most of them looked "shell-shocked" - now where have I heard that before?
This year's wicket is a complete contrast to last year's. Good all-round entertainment for the cricket watcher.
