I also think Joyce's captaincy needs to come under scrutiny as I presume he had a big say in Dockrell signing! Tactically I think he struggles and we are a lot weaker than we were under Yardy! How Robbo refuses to select beer in the championship when he is the standout t20 bowler is a joke! Beer could bat at 8 and offer a big threat spinning the ball both ways! He needs 4 day games to develop! Couldn't agree more both Joyce and Robinson's position should be coming under scrutiny. Why is Beer not playing? Will Beer has only played 9 first class games and he is 27 in October. We've never given the lad a chance

Yeah it's beyond replacements JB. It goes a little deeper than that. Good players are stagnating and it's a common theme. It ain't all doom and gloom though, Robinson and Hobden can come back in for a start, so no need for the Liddle talk. Jordan ain't made the Ashes squad, be seeing a lot more of him, GD can't do any worse if he ever plays again and neither could Beer, plus there's the prospect of a new OS to bolster the side and cheat the system by playing alongside Magoffin - which doesn't grate on me at all anymore, when it's after pill time.
None of that covers the biggest issue though, the batters, which is why my OS would be an out an out batter, like Mehela. But the biggest ingrained issue, as some have alluded to, is the existing senior batsmen who can't and shouldn't be replaced. They gotta start earning their corn, simple as. Joyce, Nash, Yardy, Wright, these ain't kids, these ain't bums, three are ex England internationals. Get a grip boys - men.

Will has given his career to his county and they owe him big time. Dockrell comes in, does naff all and will (!) probably line up for the next match.

Sussex may not have won silverware but two top 3 finishes in recent years is a great achievement. Yorkshire and Durham have test status and the former seem to have a glut of top quality players at the moment.
Before the golden era of 2001-2009 we were completely starved of any success. That was a great side, boosted by the fact we had 2 of, if not the best players to have ever played for the club. Goodwin and Mushy were crucial and the fact is neither played international cricket. We are unlikely to see that scenario again - what would give to see players of that calibre again? Did we ever have an injury crisis during that period anywhere near as bad as the one we are suffering from now?
Robinson has to be given the chance to get Sussex out and I believe they'll do it.

Robinson has to be given the chance to get Sussex out ... Not sure what this means? He's been head coach for ten seasons so it's not a case of him being given a chance : it's his ruddy job to get Sussex out of the alarming decline in the CC. Staying in Div One this season is going to be the sternest test of his coaching career to date. At this stage I wouldn't like to predict which way it will go but I'd like to see Chris Adams come in to help with the batting on a part-time, pro-tem basis. After five defeats in six matches it's surely all hands to the pump!

Oh OK. I hadn't actually heard anyone calling for him to be sacked mid-season. Although after ten seasons in charge, speculation about when he will decide he needs a new challenge is inevitably in the air. He was interested in moving on last year when he threw his hat in the ring for a job with Team England and if Gillespie had got Moores' job this time around rather than Bayliss, Robinson would obviously have been a strong contender for a move back north.
A decade is a hell of a long time in modern cricket. Mick Newell may have done a similar amount of time at Notts, but I doubt anyone else around the 18 counties has put in such a marathon stint. (Not sure howe long Grayson and Rhodes have been in post)...
