Good old home roller - easy this game with the right tactics, in the bag.
GD: 0-180 off 44 on a bit of a turner where even Wells managed five wickets. There's no doubt that if Beer had returned those match figures he would be hung out to dry. Let's lose these double standards and play the lad. Doubt he would have returned those figures, he actually has a half decent record so far - shame he ain't an import. If I were him I'd be an export.

As I write, we have had 17 individual innings and only Wright first time round has failed to reach double figures.and yet....

Dockrell is on course to be top of the batting averages and bottom of the bowling averages. #justsaying

It's the hope that kills you. If we can strangle 12 points out of this game, it will help us so much. I just hope these two can still there at tea but it's a tall order.

Whatever happens, it's a decent rearguard and after 74 overs Sussex only need to bat another 13 overs after lunch for it to be their longest inings since the opening day of the season when they batted all day and the next morning v Hampshire.
Since then Sussex have only once managed to bat for more than 80 overs and have been bowled out in fewer than 69 overs on 10 occasions. On four of those occasions they were bowled out in fewer than 49 overs, so credit to Luke Wells for digging in.

Twelve points could only come from a tie (8 points for the tie plus the 4 bonus points already earned) and that would be intensely frustrating as we would have hoped for twenty. 5 points for the draw, plus 4 would be the maximum we could hope for with any realism, and that would reflect very well on those batting now and to come.

Quite right, of course. I was being far too optimistic anyway, so it would seem.

The inevitable occurs even though we could dream of another 2011 Lancashire match. Durham thoroughly deserved to win as a Spitfire flies overhead to hail their victory.
Sad to say goodbye to Arundel for another year. What an eventful week it's been.

A lot of work to do but very pleased to see they've put up a fight today and taken it to the last 30 overs. Well played to the Lukes, Brown and Linley today. Losing Shahzad again has been a key component of the loss in my view but whether or not he should have been risked is the question.
Hopefully this will give them a bit of confidence going into the next game.

There's some slight amount optimism after that game. Losing Shahzad in the first 30 minutes and batting badly in the first innings clearly cost us dearly. The pressure of only having two front line bowlers (Dockrell at 0 for 180 disqualified him as a front line bowler, I'm afraid) took its toll in the end against a strong side.
We batted decently in the second innings. If only we had scored 300+ in our first innings. It's good to see Luke Wells get some runs. If only the captain and the other Luke could get a three figure score or thereabouts some time soon.
Magoffin bowled one of the most unplayable spells I have ever seen and was a whisker from having Durham in even more trouble. To be fair to Durham, they batted their way out of that hole well, but they would have been under more pressure if we had not allowed them a 100 run lead on the first innings.
Same old problems though really - fast bowlers injured, no spinner (although Wells did well) and too many batsmen in need of a big score to get going for the season. Two away games in the County Championship next and a win badly needed.

OK that's that one out of the way, another defeat and only four points. In the end, 300+ batting last! against that attack! was a decent performance! but it's still another defeat and things are unlikely to get better. We will not be able to put together an attack that will win us matches, especially if, as rumoured, Shahzad will not play again this season. Add to that, the flakiest batting in the division, meaning we will probably need more wins than is usually required, as we won't accrue enough batting bonus points. Relegation looms I'm afraid, unless somehow, we can find a way to draft in quality replacements.

Can anyone enlighten us further on Shahzad's prognosis for the rest of the season, please?
