Always good to see a home grown Sussex lad go on to higher honours. Out of interest who was the last one?

Matt Prior was born in South Africa. I think it’s probably James Kirtley.

Matt Prior and Michael Yardy came through the Sussex system and so count as homegrown.

And before that, Ed Giddins who debuted for England in 1999.

Ridiculous. Why on earth isn't George playing against Sri Lanka. We all know what Willey and Curran can do. He really must play in the 3rd ODI.

Agreed, Sponge cake bob pants. Do not see the point in re-introducing Willey without looking at Gorgeous first. He better play Sunday cos I'm skipping church for it - which won't please Lucifer, never mind all the lunatics I pray with.

Garton makes the England squad for the upcoming ODI series against Pakistan.
I’m pleased for the lad but it comes at a time when the Sussex squad have been decimated by various injuries and COVID isolations that we could have done with him back at Sussex. Especially if he’s just going to carry the drinks.
Let’s hope he makes his debut tomorrow.

What a joke. Still no Garton. Morgan and his selector mates need to go. What better game to give George a run out. Complete and utter bull****. Morgan will learn absolutely nothing today. His interview after the toss win was straight out of the boys own book of verbal diarrhoea.

I agree complete BS from Morgan.
"We try to give players a run and grow towards the future. George [Garton] has been fantastic around the group."

My concern is that George might feel he has to join a higher profile club to get a decent International opportunity. He's as good as the Currans and Willey.

Garton was picked to see how he fits in "with the boys in the dressing-room" and if his personality fits with the "Morgan team culture". This was never about playing cricket, but carrying the drinks tray and hand sanitiser.
Phil Salt was the same.
If you first pass the "correct personality test" and sounding from Morgan, George has gained a healthy tick, then it's all eyes on how you progress in county cricket.
Rather like football, England are blessed with a lot of talent sitting on the bench, at present, which means you can be far more choosy.
