Nice that Lawrence Booth is such a fan but anyone who has watched him bowl knows that he is a long way short of the consistency needed for Test match cricket. Indeed he needs more county experience to learn when to bowl a different length. He has the basic talent to succeed, great pace and an excellent yorker, but I could see Warner and Smith carving him for 100 in 15 overs and crushing his spirit. Let the Currans or the Overtons break their backs this winter and George will be the one to come through next year - provided he is given the match experience by Sussex. Completely agree, much too soon for him. My guess is that he'll go on the parallel Lions tour.

Blimey, he's been called up as a replacement for Ball in the next Ashes warm up!

England’s bowling reserves severely affected by injury so he’s the next in line from the Lions. It’ll be a great experience for him, good luck to the lad.

Fantastic news for George. I just hope he doesn't get thrown in the deep end too soon.

I'm gobsmacked. He might be promising but I worry that he would be clouted all round the ground. He's not the most economical bowler. Good luck to him.

Nifty action by Sussex now to protect their future by extending Garton's contract to 2020, the same as Jofra Archer, and raises the prospects of a very bright future for Sussex pace bowling. www.sussexcricket.co.uk/news-1/news-garton-signs-contract-extensionThis also suggests that the lack of a managerial coach doesn't seem to be impeding Sussex in acting to make contractual arrangements for existing players. That may or may not be significant for any applicant for a coaching role, but it does suggest that whoever joins will find that many of the decisions about the squad have already been made for them. On a lighter note, good to see from the attributed quote that Keith Greenfield is still displaying that razor-sharp wit and perceptive analysis that so dazzled us in his famous video of a couple of years back “George has pace, which is a valuable asset, and his white ball skills are developing quickly."

Grubby has a way with words. Just disappointed that his favourite ones are missing in this recent quote. It should have been: George has pace, which is a valuable (pathway) asset, and his (strategy) white ball (up)skills are developing quickly.

It's good to hear that George Garton's injury that caused him to come home early from the Lions' tour to the West Indies has cleared up. It looks like he will be fit for the start of the season, which might prove important with Jofra Archer and Chris Jordan playing T20 in sunnier climes.

Ishant, Garton, Whittingham and Robinson will all need to be fit and firing for our first 5 games whilst CJ and Jof are away if that’s the end of our bowling recruitment. One would hope there’s a batter in the pipeline? I saw a tweet earlier, which was later deleted, from Gillespie which said that he’s still waiting for his visa to come through. I hope it’s not delayed too much so that he can meet up with the squad out in SA. Our first friendly is 26th March so there’s not much time for him to get settled in and aquatinted with the squad.
