So is he injured or still not good enough for Sussex?

His bowling action does look rather stressful.

Garton has a "multi-year contract" to use Sussex's bs terminology.

George has been going like the clappers in this last wicket partnership at Derby. Out for 50 from 56 balls. His previous 1st class high score was 22 no.

Flying out to India next week for a trial with Rajasthan Royals ahead of the IPL player draft on Dec 19th.
Obviously he’s done his chances of earning plenty around the world in franchise tournaments no end of good after his exploits in the T10, good news for him but not for Sussex.

I recollect (can anyone confirm?) Mark Davis once saying that George was injury prone and that his involvement in 4 day cricket had to be carefully managed. If this is true, then it might explain his recent concentration on white ball cricket.

I remember Keith Greenfield saying that his work load would have to be managed because of the effort he puts into his bowling when trying to get it down at 90mph. I don’t think it was ever said he was injury prone.

Nonetheless, how do you interpret 'the need to manage his workload' other than a precaution against injury, bearing in mind GG's (apparently) incredibly stressful bowling action?

Yes, likely to be injured because of his bowling action but not injury prone which implies that he’s always injured. His recent injury (a side strain) was the direct result of a freak accident while grabbing a heavy kit bag off an airport carrousel to rush to a connecting flight.

His bowling action does look rather stressful. Here's my recollection of it from May 2018, which is interestingly just after April 2018 and just before June 2018. Source may be a bit flaky though.

Thought I’d bump this thread as Garton is beginning to show the results of all that potential.
I believe all he needed was a really good run in the side. Up till now he’s been in and out of the 1st XI which can’t be good for confidence, development or injury risk. Not a lot of good has come out of this blasted pandemic but the emergence of an exciting talent for Sussex is one bonus.
The fact that he’s a 3 dimensional player is even more exciting as his batting continues to improve game on game.
Have we found our new RMJ?

You mention injury risk, but it was the other way around - he was injury prone and there was the risk and concern that he wouldn’t make it through a 4-day game. But this season, he’s had a much more injury-free run. Has his bowling action been tweaked so he puts his body under less of a strain? Seems to look a lot more orthodox than in that picture that did the rounds last season when he was in the most unnatural position at the point of release.
