If the Argus is to be believed,a Sussex could be without up to eight players for this tough looking fixture. Hopefully some of the walking wounded will be able to make it or we will struggle to put out a side. If not it either means playing some of those who are clearly out of form, or throwing in a couple of academy kids. Either way, it looks like being a patched up side for a game we have to win, though given the circumstances, and the opposition, a draw might not be a bad result. Maybe the groundsmen can prepare a pitch like those old ones at Taunton. Again making the trip down for at least a couple of the days, and in spite of the results, I have to say, I've really enjoyed the opportunity to watch a bit of live cricket.

Looking forward to it and hoping that our form/ injuries will improve.
Can't quite remember about the catering situation, I recall cakes and sandwiches but not sure about breakfasts?

Lewis likely to be fit and Machan has a good chance. No Luke Wright on your team sheet, jb - as far as I know he is not on the injured list?
Mind you, we have T20 games v Surrey on Fri and Somerset on Sun so plenty of chance to lose a few more before we take on the Yorkies!

The cakes are memorable, as are the sausage rolls. I don't think they run to breakfasts. Let's hope we don't make a dog's breakfast of it all.

No Luke's omission was purely an oversight on my part. Good I'm feeling more optimistic already. An on loan batter and a three month contract for Amjad or Collymore and things would look proper rosy

Yorkshire will be missing Root, Ballance, Plunkett, Sidebottom and Rashid(paternity leave) so it will not be the strongest eleven by any means. Rafiq comes in and he has not hit the cut strip for over a year in red ball cricket. Pyrah is also an unthreatening fourth seamer. Leaning has promise but has only played a few games. Shaw the likely 12th man has yet to make his debut. Yorkshire have faltered in their last two home games at Headingley against Lancs and Notts so are not the awesome force some assume. Two of their three wins have been against Northants. I still think Yorkshire are likely champions but they are far from invincible.

They do though have a strong squad, both in terms of numbers and quality

I'm interested in seeing Rafiq because a couple of years ago he was spoken of as a potential coming man as an off-spinning all rounder. I knew that last year he had been injured but hadn't realised his bowling had fallen away as you seem to imply. A pity, because if he could do the job well enough but couldn't find his way past Rashid into the Yorkshire first team he might have been the sort of player Sussex are looking for, perhaps on a loan with a view to a longer term contract. As it is, Yorkshire will still have a powerful batting side, even without Root, Ballance and Rashid, but perhaps the bowling strengths will be of equal weight. Maybe the recovery might start here; I certainly hope so.

I'm still hopeful Robbo's search for an on loan batsman will bear fruit. In terms of quality, I suppose a Kolpak would be better than a Division Two second eleven player. If we can get someone in who is capable of staying there with the skipper, then it might give us a platform for the likes of Wright, Machan and RHB to flourish. We need to maintain our first division status if we are to have any hope of attracting better players to the club this winter. All is not lost, but we need to turn things around quickly.

Is he looking for anyone then Jon? It was implied in The Argu s that he was looking to bring in a better . . . when there's a match fixing investigation in progress?
