My feeling is the Club don't have the finances available to bring in on-loan players. I hope I am wrong.

I'm still hopeful Robbo's search for an on loan batsman will bear fruit. In terms of quality, I suppose a Kolpak would be better than a Division Two second eleven player. If we can get someone in who is capable of staying there with the skipper, then it might give us a platform for the likes of Wright, Machan and RHB to flourish. We need to maintain our first division status if we are to have any hope of attracting better players to the club this winter. All is not lost, but we need to turn things around quickly. Robbo is not searching for an on loan batsman. So this wasn't true and Mark Davis never said it? Or that Mark Robinson has overruled Mark Davis? BBC Radio Sussex's Adrian Harms: Injuries to Michael Yardy, Luke Wells and Jon Lewis, as well as Test call-ups for Chris Jordan and Matt Prior, mean the squad is stretched to the limit, and coach Mark Davis said they are actively looking at a loan signing to bolster the batting options.www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/cricket/27773687

It's obvious Joyce needs help to turn this around Are the club looking to bring someone in to freshen things up or not? It's all a bit confusing at the moment

Davis tells BBC Radio Sussex that the coaching staff are "actively looking at a loan signing to bolster the batting options" and informs Dobell we are "scouring" the loan market. Four days later the club's vice-chairman says he's talking bunkum. Meanwhile Sussex supporters are left not knowing who or what to believe as we go into the game v Somerset tomorrow seeking to avoid our sixth defeat in seven matches since the match-fixing shame plunged us all into gloom and despondency. And if we're not "actively looking at a loan signing" as Davis erroneously believed four days ago, then why not? Other counties do it and in recent days both Gloucestershire and Leicestershire - two counties considerably poorer than Sussex - have taken players on loan to cover an injury crisis. Perhaps we could find a batsman from the Lancashire League. On second thoughts, perhaps not. If not a batsman, though, could it be that we have instead switched the priority to signing a spinner on loan? Tredwell again left out of the Kent squad to face Glamorgan in the LVCC tomorrow. It would be great to see him at Arundel on Monday instead...

My understanding is that on Wednesday morning there was a meeting between Robbo, Ed, Zac and Jim (perhaps, there were more present) and after weighing up the pros and cons, it was decided not to look for an on-loan player. One presumes the reasons given were a) This was an opportunity for a youngster b) the Club finances are stretched until Jordan signs a central contract c) it was unclear how long Yardy, Lewis and Wells would be unable to play for, although the signs were Lewis could be available for next week and Wells in a couple of weeks time.
Therefore, Mark Davis jumped the gun. He made his comment before a Club meeting/decision was held/made.

So Davis was out of order and has been rebuked? Either way the lack of joined-up thinking does rather typify Sussex's woes at present, doesn't it?

Giving the T20 a wide berth - after witnessing Friday night's fiasco, I couldn't face a repeat performance. But hope to find you in the shadow of the castle on Monday!

You people are nuts. Sod loan players, batters or otherwise, you faithless fools. We have two 19 year old batters, both making runs for the seconds, who can't get in the first eleven. It's true we're all over the shop, people on different wavelengths, p**s poor management and no fight but some 2nd division second eleven player will do nothing, obviously.
Half of you slate the management for not trying the youth route and then call for some mug on loan - absurd. It would be criminal to sign up Tredwell and shunt Beer further away yet again.

Jon - it would help cut through all this confusion if you told us why you contradicted Mark Davis' 'announcement'?

Mark Davis was responding to a radio interview in which he was asked whether Sussex would look into loaning a player to help manage the injury/loss of form situation. He said we would consider loan players and when asked whether this might be a batsman said that we would rule nothing out.
Davo has not been rebuked because we are not a prep school.
Quite how this reflects un-joined up thinking I have no idea.

I said we were not going to sign a batsman on loan at this time because I thought it would be helpful to inform you of that.
Like so many of my posts on here I regret having done that and will be attending a meeting of Messageboards Anonymous next week.
