Could someone please ask the Arundel groundsman to sort out the pace of the wicket for future years - I can stay at home if all I want is the Pace of Life.
Everyone seems to agree that the wicket made for slow cricket. Is that how they like it for club matches at the Castle, I wonder?

I'm pleased there will be plenty of cricket at Arundel during the rest of the season - but I was expressing concern about the quality, not the quantity, fluffy!

I agree with your sentiment. The frustration is the quality of the pitch has nothing to do with Sussex but is down to the responsibility of the two Arundel Castle groundsmen. As Mark Robinson told Members recently, the one downside of playing at out-grounds is that the club have no control over the pitch conditions. Yet, Tim Wigmore writes in 'Cricinfo' this evening: "Sussex probably need to look at how they're going to create better entertainment here," Gale said. For most of this game, the cricket was of only incidental interest. Nothing to do with Sussex Mr Gale - everything to do with the two Arundel Castle groundsmen Lee Farquhar and Iain Sykes. www.espncricinfo.com/county-cricket-2014/content/story/753921.html

Although Gale can look at himself too. They can't have any gripes the way they played, seemingly.

Groundsmen at all county outgrounds - including Arundel - consult extensively with the county side they are hosting. Merssrs Farquhar and Sykes will have had talks with Sussex CCC and with Andy McKay abourt pitch preparation for this match - not least because if the ECB ruled the pitch to be sub-standard, it would be Sussex that would be punished with a pts dedection, not the Arundel club. Gale knows how outgrounds work from when Yorkshire plays at Scarborough and I'd say his comment was perfectlty fair. I'd also say to those criticising the Arundel club to remember the last LVCC game at Hove v Notts or the game v Durham, both played on pitches on which it would have taken the best part of a week to get a result. Thought young Wigmore's final day report was both fair and thought-provoking.

One thing not mentioned from day two and three was the quality of the Sussex fielding. I thought it was as good as at any point this season, despite the time they spent in the field in very hot conditions. Certainly the many Yorkshire fans around me noted that.
