The wrong way round, surely? Doesn't Tredwell resemble one of the earliest of Cinema bat men and Magoffin has more than a passing resemblance to

Sounds like it was as dull as dish water. I guess the Yorkies have a plan but when I saw the score before the overs I assumed it rained at some point. If we crave for control we should have forgave Monty for his splash-down episode, he got some wickets too but whatever (not when he was slashing on meat-heads, when he bowled).
Still, we're in it.

'Bowling dry' is what it was , twelvegrand, and it's just about the first time Sussex have been able to do it from both ends this season. Magoffin and Tredwell bowled 22 maidens between them.
Drawing is the new winning in Sussex's current plight (no win and seven defeats in last nine games in all formats)- so nine or ten pts from this match would represent a decent return for a beleagured side. Magoffin and Tredwell kept the batsmen so quiet that Yorks won't reach first innings parity until around lunchtime tomorrow (or even a little after if we can continue to restrict them as well as we did today). From there with only five sessions left, you'd hope Sussex can bat well enough on a dead pitch second time around to close out the game.
As s&f said, a spectacularly good crowd who, in the chairman's terminology have certainly "used it" big time this week and will be very disappointed to "lose it". A large Kent presence in the crowd, too, possibly there to support Tredwell, and a strong contingent from Bromley Cricket Club. Even the PCA past players lunch seemed to be Kent-oriented - the voice giving the main post-lunch speech that we heard drifting out of the PCA marquee sounded suspiciously like Chris Cowdrey?
Had a nice chat towards the end with Dennis Marriott, now sadly confined to a wheelchair, but whom I watched as a boy at the Oval almost 50 years ago, opening the bowling with Jefferson or Arnold. I confess that I had to read his badge to realise who he was, but he seemed rather touched that anyone remembered seeing him play.

Why are we playing on dead pitches in front of Kent fans? That's up there with the match fixing hinderence that is. Tell the Kent fans to take that pitch back with 'em. I know this is an outgroud, a little too far out by the sounds of it, but where's the life, entertainment and fun? I know we were scared of Yorks' attack but they're probably more dangerous on a slowie, from what I know of these particular ones.

PS: The official attendance figure for the Sunday 'T20 Blast' against Somerset was 5,500 - over 500 more than the largest Hove attendance of this season against Sri Lanka. What do the ECB and the other advocates of Friday night Beer Bash have to say about the fact that Sussex's two Sunday afternoon T20s have produced bigger crowds than any of the three floodlit games?

Ah, but did they sell as much lager at the Sunday matches? Where are your priorities, BM?

Joyce has been off the field for a prolonged period. Just when you think things can't get any worse? Fingers crossed...

According to radio commentary, Joyce is on the ground, sitting with Robinson, but has at present been off the field for around four hours. Assuming he is fit to bat, he will have to wait an equivalent period before he can come to the crease in the second innings so could well be coming in way down the order. No explanation of what ails him at present.
Meanwhile, as its stands in mid-afternoon on day three, Sussex have in the last four LVCC matches taken a total of 30 wickets in 530 overs. I think that shows how much we are missing Jordan...

I have this feeling that this is a big game for Sussex, lose this and it might be the game that sends us down (I know it is a bit early to write us off but I am a pessimist when it comes to Sussex cricket) I make it 4BPs so far - we need those 5 for a draw and the team needs to not lose a game. I saw above it was 9 loses out of 11, does that include the mdx game with not a ball bowled?
Those two Northants games are gong to be vital.
48 overs from Tredders, 112-2 and to think that 26 runs came in three overs so it could have been 45-11-86-2
I would not bowl Mags any more, no real point with Yorks at 382-5, we have enough bowlers to let him swap places with Joyce and sit out the rest f the innings, put his feet up and have a good rest. Sussex are not going to be bowling again in this game.
Good to see Yorkshire batting properly, Bairstow is a dasher and to see him go at 50 is a good sign of his temperament and realisation it is a slow pitch (apparently).
Lots of great comments above about yesterday - sounds idyllic to me

Perversely, I'd be unhappy if the roles were reversed.Yorks have batted far too conservatively and will now have to bowl us out in about 75 overs. Which they may do. They needed to be more aggressive. Are they affected by the generous award of points for a draw? If so, it's a backward step for the traditional format of the game at a time when it needs to be making itself more, not less attractive to spectators. It could help us enormously, however, just when we desperately need something positive to take from a season equally unrewarding both on and off the field. Quite possibly, and I'm sure their approach to the match is affected also by every county's comfort blanket - the bonus points system. Why would you risk losing when there's so many points available for a big 1st innings total in a drawn match? Let's not kid ourselves that entertainment is a priority for county captains.

How many batting points did the Northern savages get though, for all their dominance? One more than us? Serves them right for batting so slowly!

Interesting time to declare. Meaning they will almost certainly have to bat again. Sweet dreams, Mags.. You're optimistic, LM.
