Tweeted by Lizzie Ammon Stop sulking, Cook. You've had plenty of time to get used to the new helmet. Did you think you'd be exempted because you're important?

Squad: Joyce Wells Machan Taylor Nash Brown (c/wk) Robinson Shahzad Magoffin Briggs Garton Finch and Hatchett miss out. Sussex win the toss and bat first. on edit: Nash and Joyce open Coming back home after a couple of hours on the allotment, it is very satisfying to see a score of 103 - 0, and put up by the natural (if previously reluctant) opening pair of Nash and Joyce. I am of course aware that having written this we will now slide to 109-5 before lunch, but its fun all the same. Anyone on the ground with any information on the nature of the wicket i.e. is it Sussex skill and Essex mediocrity showing, or have we reacted as Northampton did to the new toss rules by preparing wickets that negate any advantage to the opposition in bowling first?

112-0 at lunch. The opening pair are like the hare and tortoise. Nash 76 runs off 91 balls; Joyce 32 off 96 balls. Now, now, none of that doom and gloom, Hhs. This is Division 2 not 1!

According to cricinfo two visiting sites (Notts and Derbys) have opted to toss, and have batted, with mixed results so far. Hants and Warwicks have put their opponents in as they are allowed to - and though Hants took early wickets, Middlesex are 120-0 against Warwicks. It is going to be very interesting seeing what strategies work best with this new rule.

174-0 and Joyce scoring almost daily. Great platform! But not as great as the Gorakhpur platform: 1366 metres
