Yeah cos Canadians are notoriously *** great at cricket. Whoever he is remember that Zaidi's just hit a ton in the same match where your lumberjack mate hit 90.

Craig Cachopa was born in South Africa but plays his cricket for Wellington(I believe.) He has 2 brothers who also play grade cricket in NZ. I'm checking my sources in Wellington to get some info on him. My buddy out there played for Wellington Firebirds 2 seasons ago and may know him!

Well the omens are good - the last 2ft nothing player to appear for Sussex was James Taylor in the game against the Aussies last year - and he scored a century!

So is he Aussie, SA or Kiwi? Any which way he ain't English so how can he play for us? If he's one of these 'English qualified' jokers who's married to a Dane or some b******s then so be it, but he needs a longer trial. No way should he be jumping ahead of Machan or Finch. We should look at Zaidi's case here and be careful - once bitten twice shy.

Perhaps coverpoint or howardh who know about these things can explain for us how he had ended up in the Seconds. He does have an impressive batting average in NZ First class cricket, but I don't really know how that translates to other competitions.

Don't we have him and young West Indian quick, currently injured, Jofra Archer on trial? I know Archer was playing league cricket in Sussex but I'm not sure about Cachopa

No but half a dozen people before me want him in, so I'm responding to that, calm or otherwise. LM seems to think he's an Aussie, maybe he thinks Kiwis and Aussies are the same but he'd be taking the puss if he does.

I don't know the rules but I believe both cachopa and joffra have passports that allow them to play as non overseas. when I were a lad I recall warwickshire turning out with billy ibadulla ( born Pakistan) john jameson( born Mumbai India) Alvin kallicharan (Guyana) rohankanhai( Guyana)bill Bourne ( Barbados) deryck murray ( Trinidad)lance Gibbs (Guyana). dont remember any fuss. And Enoch Powell was an mp.But he was born in Birmingham ,warwickshire. frankly I wish mitchell Johnson had gone to Brighton college. I believe the majority of the England team were born overseas even without Pieterson and trott.and at least three of the current Sussex team including our two England stars. its a brave new world. Is it not?

He's made quite an impression in the seconds and is certainly worth looking at. His stats are good, and although listed as a batsman wicketkeeper, he has played for the seconds as a middle order batter. Better hurry though if we're going to offer him something, yes he does have a Portuguese passport, because Surrey are supposedly sniffing around.

My friend in Wellington says that he is a great prospect and would be a good catch for any side! Come on Sussex before Surrey wave their wad!

Hope this isn't going to be a repeat of the Zaidi fiasco, where we make a panic signing 'because all the other counties are chasing him'.
