48 runs in the last 10 overs - in contrast with 22 in previous 10 - suggests that Sussex had a re-think during the lunch interval about tactics.

Shades of the '68 Gillette. And who are you casting as AC Smith?

Could Stu Whittingham be the new Don Bates?

Forecast now looks a nailed-on draw. We have to get to 400 today.

268-1 at 84 overs = 132 runs in 26 for maximum points, just 5 an over.

Be interesting to see whether points are more interesting than personal milestones/agendas.

Many congrats to Luke Wells for his 100. 9 runs off the last three balls of the over to achieve the feat. Is this Luke going up the gears?
101 runs ahead with 9 wickets standing and the run rate eeking up to just over 3 an over. Now, it's time to to go full throttle and reach 250 ahead by the close of play. Another 100 before lunch tomorrow to include maximum batting points and we have 5 sessions to bowl them out for an innings win and 24 points making it a total of 48 points and just in sight of Essex. Just concerned about the iffy weather tomorrow which may help the seamers but also stop the play and momentum.
It's great to dream.

Short breaks might be helpful tomorow if we only have three frontline bowlers. Any news on Whittingham?

I think they're very well aware of the iffy weather and the possibility there may not be too much more play in the match after today, so it makes sense for them to go all out now to get maximum points. 20 overs are left and 107 needed for that, which would also bring them to a 200 run lead. After that who knows? Sometimes it is best just to take what is available.

Maximum bonus points must be top priority.

150 to Ed, 230 partnership with Wells, this just gets better. Surely, now, is the time to go up the gears? Oops, maiden over. Fletcher being offered a great deal of respect. Edit: Great to see Joyce whacking Fletcher for 5 4s in a row and leading the charge. The sluice gates are open. The 4s are coming thick and fast. At this rate, Sussex should be around 250 ahead at the close of play if the full number of overs are allowed. They have 13 overs left to achieve 400 and full batting points or just over 4 an over. Surely a doddle? Edit 2: Congrats Ed - his 200 comes up with a 6. Now that's imperious style!! Sussex are in T20 mood with 14 runs coming off the first 3 balls of Carter's over. 24 runs coming off the 99th over. 307 partnership now - is this a new Sussex record partnership in the making? What fun! Here it is: Sussex CCC 2nd wicket partnership record stands at: 385 runs: Ted Bowley and Maurice Tate v Northamptonshire at Hove (1921): so, 76 runs still required to break it. Ho-hum, Wells goes, Bowley and Tate's record remains. Although, still the second highest Sussex 2nd wicket partnership. 19 required off 8.3 overs for maximum batting points. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sussex_County_Cricket_Club#Highest_partnership_for_each_wicket
Edit 3: Huge applause: Sussex gain their 5th batting point with 5 overs spare. Should Sussex now declare?
