With no suggestion now that Wright will be fit before, at the earliest, the first T20 match on 20 May, the team should logically be picked from the same squad as the Derbyshire match. Hatchett surprised most of us with the ability to come back again and again and swing the ball and Whittingham impressed with his pace, so they are obvious contenders. Shahzad's fitness is still not unequivocally proven, so he might miss out on the squad. Nothing to say about the batting other than the obvious, that Joyce and Nash are clearly going to make a lot of runs as an opening partnership this year, and that Luke Wells now has a chance to rebuild his career at No 3. The onus is now on Machan to find some form going in a bit lower down. Finch deserves another chance, and with the pressure off him Brown could start making the lower order runs we will have to get if our last three are Magoffin, Whittingham and Hatchett.
Nash Joyce Wells Taylor Machan Finch Brown Robinson/Shahzad Magoffin Hatchett Whittingham
Garton 12th - an excellent field

Garton should play. We won't dare play Garton for Robinson I spose but we should - play with the form. He would have been a cert if Whittingham and Hatchett weren't so impressive.
S&F smells talk of a spinner. Mind you Fluffer smells more ghosts than HH's main man, Dobell. One thing is surely certain, if we do play a spinner it will be...
Wells.

I think Will Beer has more chance of winning the Eurovision Song Contest than appearing for Sussex in a (mainly) white shirt. Puppet on a String?

I think Will Beer has more chance of winning the Eurovision Song Contest than appearing for Sussex in a (mainly) white shirt. Puppet on a String? He came close with a call up. Nul point. Actually I think he'll get a chance this season. He needs to do big things for the seconds, and he has once this season, but he had a great chance to do it again, and didn't. There's a better chance now than before though and he's served his ginormous apprenticeship so he needs to bang the door down, again. Should get an answer this time though. Weather's set fair for the next few days, if you believe those jokers, which I don't. Garton for Robinson, play the form boys, don't worry about the tail Brown's at seven, sorted.

An unchanged Sussex team and Worcestershire won the toss and are batting. I gather there is one quite short boundary, which should favour left-handers. Worcs have only one left-hander, Whiteley, in their top 6.
On Edit: An ominous Tweet from Lizzie Ammon
Nearly through the first hour and early signs are there's a LOT of runs to be had here. Words 44-0. #bbccricket

Glad we stuck with the same eleven just hope we can make a breakthrough soon. I was chatting with Nashy on the old twitter last night him and all the lads were tucked up early watching the eurovision but moaned of lack of sleep due to screeching cats and ferret heads on tv.

My chum attending the match has just sent this:
Lovely sunny morning during which the expected cloud cover has not arrived. Not many grounds where the start of play is heralded by cathedral bells. Pitch playing well and batting looking easy. D'Oliveira's grandson looks like he can play a bit. Magoffin has bowled well, the others less so, especially Robinson who has been leg side and expensive. Unless something changes it will be a long old day.

We need to give the new ball to someone other than Robinson till he finds his form again. Frauster was right, it should have been Garton in instead of Robinson for this one, play the in-form players.

Well at least we have options there. Running into the T20, we can choose between a hopelessly out of form wicket-keeping team-leading batsman and one who's struggling to get to that level.

Good intervention Wells. I was just about to post about the last time BL D'Oliveira got a championship hundred against Sussex.....but it can wait for another time.
