What shape would you use to describe this debacle? Pear. An avocado at that - based on the origin of the word.

As long as we restrict Duckett to the 282 he got against us last time, we should be home and hosed.

Another piss poor batting performance from Sussex (Nash excepted). Where is the batting coach to sort it out? We are looking more like a circus act full of clowns rather than a professional county cricket team. Another case of Sussex Duck(ett)ing the challenge! Duckett's laying into the buffet bowling Sussex are serving up. Yet another pile of manure served up by Sussex.

Have switched from Sussex commentary to Essex v Leics for the next hour or so as the game is reaching a gripping climax. Much amused to learn from the Radio Essex commentators that Chelmsford is now known as the ECG. Perhaps we should start calling Hove the SCG and sue the Sydney pretender to the name, given that the Sussex club has existed since 1839, some 17 years before the New South Wales club was formed! Jamie Porter's run up problems certainly gave my old ticker a working over yesterday. But, back to Arundel....I'd quite like to make my annual pilgrimage again. Tomorrow's forecast is awful but Friday looks OK once the torrents stop in the early hours. My question for the Sussex faithful is - does anyone know how rapidly the ground recovers from a thorough drenching? Living in Essex, I shall need to make my decision well before any Twitter info is released and I'd rather avoid spending 30-odd quid just to watch two umpires prodding and fretting intermittently. Ta. Very badly I'm afraid. The rain in the morning was just drizzle but there had been heavier rain in the days before and the outfield was very soft indeed. I doubt that the storm overnight will have helped. Incidentally the attendance was the poorest I've ever seen there and there was zero atmosphere.

Hopefully the next two days will be off due to a wet outfield as there is no way of us retrieving this.

I concur with Hhs, there was little or no atmosphere (dampened by the rain) although more hospitality tents than usual. We were lucky to get any play, so all the more disappointed over Sussex's batting.
Azharullah bowled well and got some movement in the humid air and off the pitch but even so, 6-68 was a generous outcome. Nash played him comfortably and was a class above the rest. I feel sympathetic for Finch and his golden.
Once more, our batsmen underperformed and we now have no batting coach. A very sorry state of affairs.

Very poor crowd and extremely poor member facilities (the worst on the county circuit?). The promised access to the bar mentioned in the forum not delivered. Another case of the club misleading its supporters. Left Arundel unimpressed and feeling as if we were an inconvenience and that they (Arundel Cricket Club) did not want us there at all. Why do we bother playing at Arundel? Horsham is a better pitch, has better facilities and is more welcoming.

Cv,
I don't quite understand what you mean?
There is a large beer marquee on the hill, open to all, if you aren't happy with the Members tent. They're selling a new Harveys called Sussex Champion which I recommend, if you like your beers a bit sweet and fruity.
Arundel comes alive when the sun shines, so on Friday, Saturday and Sunday ('if' the weather forecast is correct), we shall see a very different arena and one that justifies its No.1 out ground slot in Sussex.
Meanwhile, I found all the Arundel staff yesterday to be amiable and amenable... as always. Perhaps, we attended two different grounds?

It's frustrating as Friday looks like being a rather lovely day, but it don't mean owt if the ground is saturated.

As for the promise in the forum that the bar would be open to members that was a blatant lie or at the very least not the truth because they hadn't sought prior approval from Arundel before announcing this. For this I blame Sussex and not Arundel. For me Arundel is a rubbish ground, played on a rubbish pitch with rubbish facilities. If it rains it is hopeless as there is nowhere to stand to shield yourself from the rain. I fail to see why people think Arundel is so great. At the end of the day it is a village cricket ground suitable for village cricket only.

I was amazed to see as many people on the ground as there were at mid-day given the horrible conditions. As for facilities I would suggest they were equal to if not better than at Hove for a 4 day game. Certainly the cakes in the 'tea hut' looked better presented and protected than the ones in the members pavilion at Hove where countless grubby hands exchange money and Lord knows what else over them on the counter! And I don't think there can be any complaints about access to and variety of alcoholic beverages. Throw in the surroundings and i don't really know what else people want/ expect?

Sussex are saying that if there is no further rain, play is expected to start on time today. Which if Arundel had the drenching we got in The Weald last night is miraculous work by the ground staff...

I enquired via Sussex Twitter as to how much rain fell last night but their reply didn't tell me. It's kinda crucial to my decision making process for tomorrow.

Which if Arundel had the drenching we got in The Weald last night is miraculous work by the ground staff... Far be it from me to be cynical but I wonder if Sussex statements about the prospects for play have more to do with a wish to avoid another sponsorship disaster than to be consistent with strict veracity? Yesterday lunchtime when the drizzle looked to have set in, a senior member of the club's governing board, a man known for his strict adherence to god-fearing statements of the truth rather glumly told s & f and me that he thought it probable that if the rain didn't stop there would be no play till Friday. Of course he could have been entirely misinformed or unaware of the distinction between part of his arm and another part of his anatomy......

Ahh...I've just realised that the scheduled start time is 12pm each day, which will mean it's not really worth me making the effort. Thanks for your help, chaps.
