Setting aside the T20 woes and selection traumas, we have a chance for a second championship win. Glamorgan are bottom of the second division, their batting reliant on Wagg and Bragg, their bowling on Hogan and van der Gugten. None of those are household names because they are competent but uninspired players in the lowest level of the game. Sussex ought to outgun them in every respect, and if they do so they will restore faith in themselves as well as credibility amongst their supporters.
The team I would like to see:
Nash Joyce Wells Taylor Wright Machan (Note: Finch hasn't quite done enough but Machan needs to do far more) Brown Robinson Shahzad Garton (Note: Garton is a better all-round cricketer than Whittingham and his angle and yorker more dangerous) Magoffin
The above assumes that Jordan is back in the England fold for the entirely meaningless 5th one day tediumfest and the following T20.

100% agree with bringing in Garton for Whittingham. I would choose Machan over Finch. With the greatest of respect a hundred in a second team counts for very little.

Yep, don't know why Garton hasn't played a CC game since his 'rest' myself. He was taking most our wickets. Personally, I'd play Whittingham and Garton and drop Robinson, who has been poor (sorry Flash) and has only taken wickets when he's bowled some spin, it seems. Christ knows why he's been opening the bowling either.
I hope we're smart enough to produce a track that suits our needs. This is a must win, dare I say it.

Yep, don't know why Garton hasn't played a CC game since his 'rest' myself. He was taking most our wickets. You know perfectly well why. He only turned 19 earlier this season and he is not "taking most our wickets" (whatever that wierd piece of syntax means). In his entire f/c career he has 8 wkts at 43 each. He needs introducing carefully as a fourth seamer in games when there are three experienced top-line operators for him to learn from and to cover for him if it goes wrong (as it will from time to time as he slowly works out the f/c game.) You pretend to champion young players. But actually your irresponsibly gung-ho, let's-throw-them-in-at-the-deep-end approach - such as your desire to play Garton and Whittingham together - is more likely to drown promising young careers before they've even removed their water wings. No surprise that you've already turned against Ollie Robinson. But he's 22, in only his second full season and an improving cricketer with every game. That is if only people like you would get off his back and let him...

Oh dear, I've broken Borderman. A wrong turn followed by a topple over the edge - and they say experience is vital. Of course a common progression from experience is senility. A tip: don't post on a topic with other beefs in mind.

Is Beer really batting at six in that championship team?

Is Beer really batting at six in that championship team? Clearly the captain and coach have made the call to replace Machan with Beer. Beer won't bat at 6, Brown will. It looks a very long tail: Beer Shahzad Briggs Magoffin Whittingham Do we need Beer and Briggs when Wells also bowls spin? If this goes horribly wrong there will be a lot of criticism thrown in Davis and Wright direction. Why is Robinson not playing instead of Whittingham? Just three seamers and one of those has played just five first class games. Robinson would also have been a better bet.

This looks like a very big gamble, and unlike a gamble in T20 there are a lot of overs to be bowled in which to be found out. Best of luck Sussex and fingers crossed.

Reminds me of Roy Hodgson shuffling the team around in the hope of eventually finding the right combination.

This team highlights our need for an overseas all-rounder for the second half of the season.
