21 year old Jack Murphy is very unlucky to miss out for Glamorgan as he has scored 346 runs @ 49 with a best of 139 and 7 wickets @ 20 with a best of 3-35. Glamorgan have left out Craig Cooke, Colin Ingram and Dean Cosker. In their place come Mark Wallace, Neil Selman and Owen Morgan.

Why are Machan and Robinson not playing?

So we've got 4 spinners if you include Nash. Luke must have seen something in the pitch?
Let's hope it works, good luck Sussex.

More than Glamorgan did, since they elected for the toss and won it, playing with at least 4 seamers and no spin unless Rudolph oils up his rusty leg spin. Of course if it a potentially villainous pitch then Sussex will have 4th innings on it, and canny seamers like Wragg and Hogan can exploit an uneven surface as effectively as many spinners nowadays....

Well, just try second guessing a Sussex selection this season. Hope it goes well, it will be a particularly hard fall if it doesn't. Winning the toss might have helped. Maybe Wright is simply taking the two best bowlers from the night before and trusting them on form - in a completely different format. Maybe we've purposely produced a turner?
Good luck Sussex.

The away team has the choice. This was not under Sussex's control. I think Beer and Briggs were selected on the basis of being the best two bowlers from last night. How many overs will Beer bowl? Not many by the looks of it so far. I worry about the length of our tail. I would rather have seen Machan instead of one of the bowlers.

My warped sense of humour is wondering whether Briggs and Beer will whirl away for a dozen overs each and then Wells will come on and take two wickets.

No: the away team has the choice to put thier opponents in without a toss. However, Glamorgan opted to toss and won it, then batted, obviously liking the thought of making runs in the first innings at least.

Not the best of starts. 96/1 at lunch against the side at the bottom of the table.
Selman gets his 50, a career best in only his second first class game.

What was the point in selecting Beer and then bowling him for just two overs?

What was the point in selecting Beer and then bowling him for just two overs? Good timing coverpoint - a sort of reverse goatmouth

What was the point in selecting Beer and then bowling him for just two overs? Good timing coverpoint - a sort of reverse goatmouth I was beginning to wonder why Wright selected him. I still think a tail with Beer or as it has been previously Robinson at 7 is far too long. Looking to the next game at Tunbridge Wells I believe a spinner should make way for Machan and Robinson should replace Shahzad.

This team selection shows Wright obviously thinks this pitch is going to be going sideways later on.
