BLOODY BRILLIANT!!! 404-5 and an on-going 289 partnership. The Durham fielder dropping Lukey on 80 at deep mid-wicket. Will he sleep tonight? Well I shan't. Too busy kicking myself for not going to watch today, whatever the cost, however chancy the forecast might have been....never mind, tomorrow is another day. Yes, we missed you, hh! The first session was engrossing - a really good even contest between bat and ball. Then one of the most amazing turn arounds you will ever see. Durham missed the crocked Onions as the spearhead of their attack and dropped some chances - the drop when Luke was on 80 (by Richardson) was regulation and would be held 99 times out of 100. But you can't take anything away from Wright and Brown - they were magnificent. And if Umpire Saggers had been more effiicient in calling the no balls, we might have got close to 500 runs in the day. Ten were called (20 runs) - but that was a fraction of those which should have been called. Sat square on to the crease, we could see every single bowler from the Cromwell Rd End struggling to stay behind the line, even the military medium of Colliingwood who overstepped at least a couple of times but was not called. Rushworth must have been overstepping two or three times per over in his first spell (including the ball that dismissed Nash, who would have been recalled on a tv replay). But he was only no-balled twice. I'd guess there were perhaps 20 no balls that were not called, which would have taken the score to 481. And the runs then scored from the extra deliveries would perhaps have taken us to 500 in the day. But on a day like today it would be churlish to complain that we should have had even more runs!

Interesting about the no balls and overstepping at the Cromwell Road end. I suppose that may have been some quirk of the drainage making the slope down a little greasy?
Anyway, I'll do my best to view it for myself tomorrow....cue for thunderstorms, hurricanoes, cataracts etc

You cataracts and hurricanoes, spout Till you have drenched our steeples, drowned the cocks! ” Hope to see you there to watch the Durham attack going further down the drain...

Nothing like a bit of King Lear on a Sunday evening.

It's so pleasing to see Luke play this type of innings ( he produced a couple last season in similar circumstances as well ) He looks a top class county player now he has learnt to go on and get big hundreds. Before it was all about cameos of 60-70, but now he looks a proper batsman

The no balls came at the sea end. The first session was not even. It looked like a good toss well exploited. All the more reason to praise the application, skills and fitness of Luke and Ben. Blue skies in Hove this morning.

Blue skies in Hove this morning. We will have to disagree about the first session. I thought 110-4 at lunch was a splendidly competitive morning with Durham using the overcast conditions as you would expect and Sussex fighting hard and being very positive to keep the board ticking over at almost four an over. The real no-ball problem was at the Cromwell Rd end where Unpire Saggers called several but missed or ignored many, many more - and spent plenty of time between deliveries remarking the crease with his boot as if the line had worn away and he was struggling to judge where the heel was landing. He didn't have the advantage of the square-on 'camera' position we had, so I make no criticism of him; he could only give what he saw. But there was an awful lot we saw that he didn't!

What a mare for Zaidi! He's been waiting for close on a day to bat and he's then out 2nd ball. One has to feel sympathy for him. I admire Robinson for giving for him every chance but perhaps some time in the 2nd XI may help his form and confidence.
