Fb, Apologies for that, I didn't see your recent post. Here it is from WickedCricket. When you take a look at these statistics, is it not surprising that Jofra Archer’s cricket career is on hold as he physically comes to terms with this recent work-load (see below). Archer is a young man (24) with a body that is still adapting to the rigours of being a fast bowler or in the case of the Summer Ashes, ‘a super-fast bowler’. Surely, young seamers and their bodies must be shown more sympathy and understanding by the ECB rather than be treated like pit ponies? PS: Remember too that Archer did not play his first match for England until May 2019, so these statistics cover just 7 months. The one strand of silver lining is that Archer may play a few games for Sussex early in the season to test his fitness and recovery, in preparation, for the expected International comeback against the West Indies on June 4th. Potentially, these matches could be: ChampionshipMay 8th-11th: Glamorgan (h) May 15th-18th: Nottingham (a) May 22nd-25th: Derbyshire (a) T20May 28th: Kent (h) May 29th: Hampshire (a)

Does this suggest that Joe Root was so keen to use his new secret weapon that he consistently over-bowled Archer throughout that period?

or he didn't need to try so hard bowling in Div 2.

Don't remember him being injured once in three seasons at Sussex. England get hold of him and bang, my elbow hurts. Are 400 overs more overs than what he ever bowled for Sussex over a summer? I don't think it is. But captain dumb-arse expects him to bowl 95mph and be a stock bowler in work rate. So now he's injured. I think it's without doubt that Root has bowled him too much, and that expectations have been too high. He's still succeeding though because he's class but Root has gotta wise up, in more ways than one. To be fair, there may be signs of him doing that over this last series.

I don’t know why anyone is surprised he’s injured, all fast bowlers suffer injuries, it’s not a natural action for a body to be put through.
The 2 years before he came to Sussex Jofra was out with stress fractures to his back.

The 2 years before he came to Sussex Jofra was out with stress fractures to his back. He bowled 40 overs in one innings, that’s ridiculous. He’s been treated awfully. The snide remarks from captain and coach have been a disgrace

It is interesting to note that Joe Root blames Archer's appearances in both the BBL and IPL before joining England for part of his injury woes. Does he have a point? One suspects Archer may need to give up the T20 franchise circuit if he's to remain fit for England. The question being: Will Jofra do this given the money available? You look at the amount of cricket he's played before he played for England, he's played a huge amount, and he came into international cricket and took the world by storm. He's had a phenomenal start on the international stage and should be extremely proud of what he has achieved already in his short career. You just look at the international schedule and it's full on if you're playing all three formats. Chuck in an IPL, Big Bash… that's a lot of mental fatigue as well as physical.

The Jofra Archer injury story from The Times. One interested party writes and points out elsewhere. : He needs to ramp it up more ... The energy and effort have to be there all the time.: We want every ball to be an effort ball. : Y our body hurts at times ... You’ve just got to choose to do it, really. : Culturally he is different."Comments about Archer by the usual Internet trolls? Nope. All quotes over this winter from England’s captain, head coach and director of cricket. "It now transpires Archer has played all of his seven Tests with a stress fracture which the England medics failed to diagnose. And Root's response on behalf of the England management is to deny any responsibility. If Archer turns his back on Test cricket in favour of earning considerably more money in T20 franchises around the world, you couldn't really blame him... (athough Root, Giles and Silverwood probably will, given their comments above)." The biggest disgrace is the abject inability of the England medics to diagnose Archer's stress fracture last year, which only makes his Herculean efforts during the Summer, given the pain Jofra must have experienced, even more courageous and outstanding. As some say on this Forum, join the England squad at your peril. www.thetimes.co.uk/article/74775abe-4a97-11ea-9e1c-032b7cdc9719?shareToken=3c631723c11e9741a1a4574dca87cbe2
