Starting to wonder if we can bat out the draw on Day 4 for our 8th draw.

Typical, flat slow T Wells wicket. Hard to get out but difficult to score at more than three an over. Should be 450 v 450 on first innings, unless Sussex bat particularly badly against Rabada. Which is always possible, of course...
Sussex seemed to accept very early that it isn't a result wicket and appeared a bit flat in the field. The day summed up perhaps when at five to six the umpires had to point out that Sussex had three fielders behind square on the leg side.
Jofra is a character, and appears to have modelled himself on Chris Gayle. Laid-back or what? He had to carry a drink around the boundary to Whittingham and when he got there he stretched out and lay down on the boundary edge. At the end of the next over, Whittingham wanted a drink again and had to bend down and pick up the water bottle himself because there was no way Jofra was moving from his slumber...

Why is Extras always playing for our opponents?

The entertainment value was such that it was a relief to leave the ground at the tea interval - along with plenty of others. Not a cricket watchers' pitch.
Whittingham got some life out of the wicket, but the other bowlers did not look threatening.

Why is Extras always playing for our opponents? Should have been far more. Jordan pesistently no-balled but wasn't called. To be fair to Briggs, whio has been so deeply unimpressive so far, he did the holding role well and bowled an absolutely huge number of dot balls . Beer was decent, too, and I think went for just one boundary in a dozen overs. Ridiculous to think this is only his 12th f/c match in a nine year career. He certainly bowled better than Wells would have done. But whether the margin is wide enough to justify his inclusion ahead of Shahzad , I'm not sure. Ben Brown says in the programme Kent have produved for the week that following the Glamorgan game Wright has concluded five frontline bowlers is the way to go. So expect Brown to bat at six for the rest of the season , followed by a tail that starts at seven, whether its three seamers plus Beer and Briggs or four seamers plus a spinner. So we had better get used to it - although once Taylor has gone that's going to put big pressure on Joyce, Nash and Wright to deliver and on Finch and Machan to advance their game.

So not a good advert for outground cricket (apart from being close enough for easy access for Sussex supporters)

After scoring 0,4 and O in his last three innings, he smashed 234 from 136 balls, and all but 40 of those runs came in boundaries.

No wonder we didn't elect to bowl. No surprises when I found out close of play score, none whatsoever. This two spinner thing might work if we bat first but I don't fancy it, even then. Briggs bowled 27 wicket-less overs on the first day - sound familiar? With two spinners it isn't as unlikely as in the past but still, it's got concede advantage all over it.
Scoreboard pressure should do for us, regardless of the pitch. Not impressed, again.

I have just painted my front door. There is an open invitation to anyone at Tunbridge Wells who would like to come and watch it this afternoon.

I have just compiled two lists, one is entitled 'Reasons to be cheerful as a Sussex fan' and the other 'Key achievements of Welsh Socialists'. These are the highlights..

Thought about going today but decided to stay in the garden, drinking a book and reading a good bottle of wine.

This Kent innings is coming apart at the seams. I reckon if our bowler-packed team can muster 800 or so, we're in with a shout here.

Well done Briggs. Crane makes you look positively parsimonious.
