hh I totally agree the timings are bizarre. If the matches began on Thursday they would be 10.30. I bet several are affected by bad light at some point.

Even more oddly, Sussex seem to feel the need to answer for Leicestershire in their home match against Sussex next week - unless Sussex have got themselves confused and think they are hosting it too! As many people know usually in September our matches will begin at 10:30am, but as this match begins in August all four days will proceed with the same start time.
Our match against Leicestershire, that begins on the 6th of Septemeber however, will begin at 10:30am.

There must be a strong argument for England to release Jordan for Sussex's remaining games if he's not likely to play in the ODI's?

Kent have managed to name a squad for tomorrow: Kent squad: 17 Sam Northeast (c), 23 Daniel Bell-Drummond, 58 Sean Dickson, 6 Joe Denly, 7 Sam Billings, 3 Darren Stevens, 42 Will Gidman, 15 James Tredwell, 26 Matt Coles, 77 Hardus Viljoen, 8 Mitch Claydon, 11 Imran Qayyum. www.kentcricket.co.uk/news/gidman-loan-extended-as-kent-name-unchanged-squad-v-sussexWill Gidman should keep his place and Qayyum will probably miss out unless the wicket looks improbably dry. Meanwhile no announcement from Sussex. Could this mean there are negotiations continuing about the possible return of Jordan? Are they awaiting fitness reports on some of our ailing batsmen? Is there deep and prolonged discussion about the possible roles of Robinson and Shahzad? For the answers to this and all of life's troubling questions, come to Hove tomorrow.

Or it could be that we're negotiating an on loan batsman or two?

'ello, 'ello... no Luke Wright! "Skipper Luke Wright has been ruled out with an arm injury..." He hasn't been lifting up his children again... has he? Nothing on his twitter. Sadly but fortunately, given his present form, will he be that badly missed? The Sussex squad is as follows: Danny Briggs Ben Brown (c/wkt) Craig Cachopa Tom Haines Fynn Hudson-Prentice Steve Magoffin Chris Nash Ollie Robinson Phil Salt Ajmal Shahzad Luke Wells David Wiese www.sussexcricket.co.uk/news-1/preview-sussex-welcome-kent-for-penultimate-home-championship-clash

Our match against Leicestershire, that begins on the 6th of Septemeber however, will begin at 10:30am.Nothing to see here. It's all set out in the ECB mach regulations, Law 16.1.1 : - Matches where the scheduled first day is in Aug have playing hours of 11-6. Matches where the scheduled first day is in Sept have playing hours of 10.30-5.30. Tomorrow's game starts in August. The fact that somes days of the match fall in Sept is irrelevant. The match against Leics starts in Sept so will begin at 10.30 on all four days, as per ECB match regulations. Nothing bizarre or odd about this. We've had the same regulations for many seasons. The only circs under which the playing hours change during the course of a match are when day one starts at midday due to a late floodlit finish the night before. Such games then revert to an 11 am start on days 2,3 and 4.

In batting order:
Nash Salt Wells Cachopa Haines or Hudson-Prentice Brown Wiese Robinson Shahzad Briggs Magoffin
The return of Robinson and Shahzad in place of Archer and Garton strengthens the bowling but the absence of Joyce, Wright, Machan, Finch and Jordan leaves the side horribly short of runs.
I predict a Kent victory by an innings.

Is Garton injured?
The final XI is likely to be:
Nash Salt Wells Cachopa Hudson-Prentice Brown (+, c) Wiese Robinson Shahzad Briggs Magoffin

Haines deserves to be named in the 12 as he has scored 391 runs @ 39 for the seconds with a best of 120* against Glamorgan. He also scored 86 against Surrey. However, I think Hudson-Prentice should get the nod tomorrow. Cachopa has 511 runs @ 28 with a best of 80 although he has had the added responsibility of keeping wicket. Hudson-Prentice has 574 runs @ 34 with a best of 147*. He also has scores of 70, 50 and 125. Salt has 583 runs @ 29 with a best of 94. It is a little concerning we are having to put two guys in the firsts who are averaging less than 30 and have yet to register a ton this season for the seconds.

We may be understrength through injury, illness, playing for Greenland v The Friendly Islands, or any number of other reasons, but at least we still have this message board. Spare a thought for poor old We Are Kent, who announced at the beginning of the season that they would be unable to carry on running their website past the end of the season. Yesterday their site was slow to load, but not as arduous as the discussions about train times and the use of the Senior Citizen Railcard. Today they seem to have hit the buffers: I do hope they come back, and remain afloat. All clubs need their message boards and their individualistic posters who disdain to tread the approved on-message line of the county's marketing teams.

I predict a Kent victory by an innings. Strengthens the bowling? Both Archer and Garton have better averages than Robinson and Shahzad! Yes. Garton and Archer have only played nine f/c games between them. Shahzad and Robinson total 113 f/c appearances. With so many experienced batsmen out, it was vital to do something to restore the balance between experience and youthful promise in the XI. When Sussex played Kent this time last year in the RLC, I don't think I'd even heard of Salt, Haines, Archer or Garton and if I'd heard of H-P I certainly wouldn't have recognised him. Interesting to look at the Sussex XI that played Kent in August 2015 because only THREE of them are in the squad for this match - Nash, Cachopa and Robinson. Yes, it was a white ball match and if it had been a red ball game then Brown and Magoffin would have probably played (and Cachopa would have dropped out). But eight changes in the team from a year ago suggests one of two things. a) It's an indication of the fantastic depth in the Sussex squad b) It's an indication of a club that's in a state of flux and uncertainty I'm sure we all know which it is! ps on edit: Kent will play eight of those who appeared v Sussex a year ago and they are strengthened by the changes as three imports in Dickson, Gidman and Viljoen come in for three homegrown players in Blake, Cowdrey and Hunn.
