To go from top flight challengers to a side that can't even compete in the second division, is nothing short of disgraceful Yes we've lost a lot of quality players during that period, but we've shown little ambition in trying to replace them. Recruitment has been poor, so poor that we have had to use trialists on a few occasions last season, and again this season.

Thanks Joe. Is Garton injured? If not, personally I would have played him instead of Barton.

Thanks Joe. Is Garton injured? If not, personally I would have played him instead of Barton. He was running drinks on and nothing in the team news about being injured so I assume not. I was also surprised they went with Barton over Garton.

I woke up feeling optimistic about the world today for some reason. Then, my mind switched to the contest (if you can call it that) that is taking place at Trent Bridge. To keep my optimism flowing, I considered what would be the best outcome I could imagine from today's play. Avoiding the follow on or rain/bad light were about as good as I could summon. Is anyone more optimistic than me? Is someone going to make a difference? Even we do recover in the batting department, Nottinghamshire are likely to be able to choose what target they set, particularly if Magoffin is out for the count. Optimism for the day is waning.

I was also surprised they went with Barton over Garton. He certainly wasn't injured on Sunday when I saw him bowl for the 2's. The only explanation I can come up with is that they see Garton as a white ball bowler and want to keep him fresh for the opening game of the 50 over comp at Lords on Thursday.

35 for 5. We need a captain's innings from Luke.

Archer and Barton have added 35 for the 9th wicket so far. It's the biggest partnership of the innings. I won't bother to check the record books for the biggest 9th wicket partnership in our history just yet.

Sussex: 155 All Out. Trailing by 292 runs. Presumably they will follow on. Bar a miracle, the question being: can they survive the day and keep it going tomorrow or does the match end in two days?
I just hope Sussex put up a fight, don't capitulate today, and show some pride. Not a lot you can say about this game. 24 hours ago, Notts were 88-5.

Any news on when Wells and Machan are likely to be fit? They are badly needed. As someone once said I can urinate for longer than Tony Cottey can bat. Sadly that now applies to the whole team. The match will be over within two days. PATHETIC!

I disagree it is a weak batting line up but that five senior individuals in the top seven are not playing to their potential and need to start pulling their weight. I think performance related pay needs introducing.
