As much as we could do with the pair of them back, it is still a very weak batting line up. I disagree it is a weak batting line up but some senior individuals are not playing to their potential and need to start pulling their weight. I think performance related pay needs introducing. We lack real class in the batting, and a genuine opener to partner Nash.

As far as I'm concerned no runs should equal no pay or put it another way if you score f all you get paid f all. Bugger the family line it is time Davis gave the players the Fergie style hairdryer treatment. They are too bloody comfortable. The side is full of passengers.

Sorry, guys - it's 0 for 1 - Finch out. It is going to be over by tea. Pathetic Davis out! What do we expect with Robinson mark 2?

Last season, Nash, Joyce and Wells were a decent top three. In championship terms, maybe Taylor was a tad disappointing, but like Joyce, he's a class batsman. The brief was to strengthen the back up, but in actual fact, we've left it weaker than last season

Van Zyl should be the one replacing Joyce. Evans for me is nothing more than a one-day player.

The real issue was not replacing Joyce, which should have been done using the overseas route Evans was signed as a leading batsman in the opinion of the management as they offered him a three year contract. If he had been backup he would have only got one year. However my view is that he was not selected in the four day side for Warwickshire because he wasn't good enough. The real problem in this game was letting them get 447 when we should have bowled them out for no more than 180.

Even if/when Wells & Machan return they haven't got the consistency to their game for us to post competitive totals neither have they? So how can we improve the batting enough not to be whipping boys through all formats this season?

So how can we improve the batting enough not to be whipping boys through all formats this season? There's only one way, bring in an overseas batsman, Khawaja is available. We won't do anything with this batting line up. We may not currently have the bowling options, so perhaps a temporary loan could be an option When everyone is fit, we do have the bowling options The same cannot be said about the batting

The top 6 were vulnerable last season but with van Zyl and Finch replacing Joyce and Taylor, it looks like a weaker batting line up even when Wells returns. Wright doesn't look like getting a big score either. I find myself hoping Nash or Brown can score 75+.

Wright doesn't look like getting a big score either. I find myself hoping Nash or Brown can score 75+. That alone won't be enough. With our current resources if everyone is fit the first choice top seven would be: Nash Wells Machan (produced his best batting form at 3 in division 1 in 2015) Van Zyl Evans (not convinced he is the answer at number 5) Wright Brown Jordan, Archer, Magoffin and Wiese as the four seamers. I suppose Philander was there to cover the absence of Jordan. However, the batting clearly needs strengthening even with Machan and Wells as neither Evans nor Van Zyl have set the world alight. Currently our batting isn't strong enough to go in with four seamers and a spinner which would be my preferred route plus Wright and Brown seem to prefer the easy option of batting at 6 and 7 when they are capable of batting at least a position higher.

There have been a few humiliating Sussex performances in recent years but this one must rank up there given that around lunchtime yesterday, Notts were 88-5. And then to lose by an innings and 88 runs in just 5 further sessions...
Ho-hum. Time to call Joyce? Agreed, Notts look odds on for promotion this season, re-invigorated by the Peter Moores appointment, but no idea what can be done to kickstart Sussex's season. No idea at all.

Or was it just more spin by a club which is going absolutely nowhere under the current management?
