Ben Brown (captain) Jofra Archer Danny Briggs Laurie Evans George Garton Chris Nash Ollie Robinson Angus Robson Stiaan van Zyl Luke Wells Stuart Whittingham David Wiese Luke Wright
Not much imagination there, the best we can hope for is that Garton gets a game. Once again, why Evans? What is the point of putting him in the squad if there isn't a real intent to play him? And if there is, in place of whom?

As for Garton Worcester showed that Whittingham is the more likely to play out of the two.

Whittingham and Garton both play, Briggs misses out.
Sussex win the toss and elect to field first. Could that be the first mistake of the day? Derbyshire obviously wanted to bat first as have all the other counties who've Won the toss this morning.

127-2 at lunch both wickets to Garton who has been expensive but the only bowler to get a break through thus far.

Can't help think the wrong team is selected. Variety! Where is it? 5 seamers all very similar in pace. Garton, bordering on expensive? Looks like it's going to be a long haul to get a victory from this.
Could be Davo's final nail? 50 over, failed in developing the team and selecting the right team for the right game. T20 Captaincy issue, until the last game and selection issues, Failed to qualify when they should have, A superstar who failed to shine. Burnt out on the flight from India? CC, selection issues when it mattered. Safe decisions made, but lost games they should have done better in. No gambling/risk taking.
All in all a disappointing year. How can Davo survive, and Greenfield too?
Questions to ask at the forum? How do they justify the jobs?

Joe,
I am at the ground and around 99.9% of supporters are asking the same question. From BBC Adrian Harms to Gabber the dog. After winning the toss why did we bowl first? Even groundsman Andy Mackay told a Derbyshire media man that Sussex should have batted first. Hindsight is a wonderful thing but a major decision like that can win or lose a match.
Perhaps, Sussex had a game plan. We field first whatever. At present, the Derbyshire media are feeling pretty happy. Perhaps, Sussex will now take 7 wickets before the end of play and bowl 'em out for under 300?

2 strange decisions so far in this match, to bowl first and to go in with 5 front line seamers and no spin option. Time will tell whether either of these decisions were correct.
As I write Wiese takes his 3rd and Derbyshire are 7 down.

Derbyshire finish on 338-9. Wiese takes 4, Garton 3 and van Zyl 2
Honours pretty even?

Derbyshire finish on 338-9. Wiese takes 4, Garton 3 and van Zyl 2 Honours pretty even? In the sense that a very third-rate side takes 3 points, probably 4, from a side that ought to be first-rate. Sussex made Derbyshire a gift of a good batting track on a fine day and in the morning, with the exception of Robinson and a couple of strikes from Garton, wasted the ball completely. In the afternoon they let Godleman, who oughn't to get into double figures with his horrible stance and crab-like foot movement, go to 50, and though Wiese bowled much better they had the best of the session. I didn't stay for the final session but if we can bowl a side down to 272-7, they ought not to reach 300. The same old story of wasted resources. Sussex have an excellent bowling attack, though Archer is now very tired and Garton and Whittingham are inexperienced - how surprising is that? Some of the fielding was pretty lacklustre and there wasn't much sense of purpose and aggression. Individuals shone: Robinson throughout, Garton with his sheer pace and awkward angles, Whittingham again for beating the bat. As a team, they weren't really there.

I really think Archer should be rested for the last 2 games. He's got 400+ overs in his legs and the last thing we need is for him to break down with another stress fracture to his back. He is becoming less and less effective as the games go on and deserves a break. Jordan will be back for the last 2 and the seam bowling would be more balanced with 2 senior bowlers plus Whittingham and Garton. I think Whittingham and Garton should definitely play the last 2, they both need game time and a run of 3 games would also enable them to get into more of a rhythm. Garton looked rusty to say the least although you can see the potential. Whittingham looked really sharp at times and should probably have been used more.

Following the Sussex batting this morning becomes so tediously predictable. Which batsman will stand up now and be counted - Wright or Brown? Time for 100 partnership between them, perhaps?
96-4.

I'm afraid predictable is right s&f .
I'm not holding out much hope of a score above 200.
