Well played, Derbyshire. They never seemed to lose the plot. Only their 2nd win of the season. Only their 2nd win in 2 seasons. So, even greater reason for congratulations! They didn't play like a team that had forgotten how to win.

It was a good, close game though very disappointing to lose. Derbyshire batted more sensibly than us and waited until batting got easier. If someone on the groundstaff knows that batting gets easier after 30-40 overs, surely the players and management do.
It was good to see Luke Wright get some runs. He batted with more patience. Our bowling was mixed. We miss Magoffin badly, particularly when Archer has been overbowled and fails to match the high standards he has achieved this year. And, of course, replacing Joyce remains a problem.

In an interview after the game Ben Brown said that statistically it was better to bowl first at Hove and that if given the choice again he'd still bowl first! Whats that saying...lies, damned lies and statistics. In other words using statistics to bolster a weak argument. And it it shouldn't have been ' a good close game ' Derbyshire is a side who've won 1 game in 2 seasons.

Davis out Greenfield out Yardy out Hopkinson out Agreed. Totally agree , would also suggest a new skipper from outside the club to shake things up. A days state of affairs . I want to hear from Davis , man up and let's hear anothe set of excuses......

I reckon 99% of those watching that opening session would disagree with Brown. You could have heard a pin drop in the pavilion when the 'elected to field' announcement was made over the PA. People were in disbelief.

Never mind saving Viljoen for the new ball. Win it before the new ball. Almost like you wanted them to, Sharkey 😳🙄

Yes I agree, bring in a top order bat who's got a bit of fire in his belly and offer him the captaincy even if it means getting rid of the deadwood to release the funds.

An overhaul of the coaching staff is required together with getting rid of this ridiculous family notion. Sussex are supposed to be a professional cricket club not an amateur Sunday league team. Worcestershire getting promoted with ten Academy players and one overseas player. Sussex should follow Worcestershire's example for success. What a surprise that you should want Sussex to do that. Thing is, would you and all the others have the patience and tolerate all the defeats and bad runs of form along the way, which there would be? Somehow I doubt it, a few losses and there'd be calls for wholesale changes.

Interestingly quiet on here while the match was in progress....several afraid that we might win presumably?

Somehow I doubt it, a few losses and there'd be calls for wholesale changes. As opposed to signing a load of players from other counties and overseas which has really worked for us as we are now 13th out of 18 counties! Despite all the imports we are being beaten by Derbyshire, Northants and almost lost to Glamorgan 2XI. Worcestershire have proved with proper coaches and homegrown talent success can be achieved. The last two years under Davis have been an utter shambles and wholesale changes to the coaching setup are needed as well as getting rid of this ridiculous family notion. Sussex are meant to be a professional cricket club not an amateur Sunday League team. It's time to end the "jobs for the boys" culture at Sussex. I hope Rob Andrew is allowed by the board to make the wholesale changes to the backroom team which are badly needed. This was the season for Sussex to get promoted. Instead a team with ten homegrown players and an overseas player have been promoted instead.

CP Worcestershire have done extremely well considering that they were in a bit of turmoil when it was announced that Tom Kohler-Cadmore was being chased by Yorkshire. I remember the time well as it was all kicking off when they visited Hove. However, if I look at Sussex youngsters they show some promise. I do wish Kent had some of the bowling resources Sussex have. How much longer can we rely on Stevens to lead our bowling attack?
