At 1-1 this morning Sussex supporters would have bitten their hand off to be 341-7 at close of play. But we were 289-3, so all down to perceptions. A typically frustrating Sussex performance - just like yesterday.

Sadly I was only able to watch Sussex serenely progress from 100-1 to 280 odd for 2. I thought Nash, Cachopa and Joyce, in particular, batted brilliantly. I had to leave before the collapse, so blame me! It was great to see a good crowd, including many away supporters, and to witness Joyce's batting will warm me through the dark winter months. It was pretty evident on today's performance that Buttler has a long way to go with his keeping.
Ah well.

Just a bad day, if what you saw is accurate. We're winning, so it's good, right? This MB is dying a death ain't it - whatever that means. Well done Joyce, again.

Oh what I saw was accurate. To add to the early drop of a sitter from the skipper his missed stumping was almost risible. Actually in general he looked disinterested and did nothing to make poor throws look better. Always a telling sign, I feel.

Why was Jordan taking a suicide singles in a four day game? Why the rush?
Wells and Brown look wretchedly out of form and could do with a run in the seconds. ime for Machan and Jackson.

Isn't it interesting to see Ashar Zaidi shining with ball AND BAT.... perhaps our management know more than we do!

I would be inclined to forget Tredders and look for a seam bowling all rounder to replace Jordan in the budget. Cachopper also appears a wise investment and like Zaidi is cheap. but your post fixed Zed. Should have waited till after the innings to comment.

Let's not get carried away here, we are at the arse end of the season, and we see what he could have done. Fair play to the guy, I'm pleased for him and it follows a series of improved performances for the second eleven. However, he wasn't brought in as an investment for the future, and it would be fair to say that until now, he hasn't delivered. Neither have others though, so I suppose we shouldn't make him a scapegoat.

Jordan gaining a central contract and Matt Prior losing his really opens a can of worms for Sussex and Robinson. What happens now? Robbo has been clear that the club require a new seamer to replace Jordan and that is where the newly acquired money must go, but who? And where does This place Prior?
Meanwhile, many congrats to Zaidi for his innings today. Is he finding late form? As it is highly unlikely Sussex will garner the services of Tredwell next season we need Zaidi to step up to division 1 cricket. Some might suggest he hasn't the ability, others that he needs the experience and confidence.
56-2 and surely this match ends at least with a draw?
The newly fired up Zaidi comes onto bowl and given the present story who knows? He may even take a fifer!
Finally, Luke Wright misses out completely with any kind of ECB contract which seems quite unfair Given his superb form this season but is good news for Sussex come 2015.

Good news all round I think Suddenly we look pretty strong batting wise, with Prior available full time and the emergence of Cachopa. We do desperately need a seamer, and a quality one at that. I would have liked to have Tredwell here, and who knows, if wants to come and Kent release him, it still might happen. The incremental contract will help, but we probably need to channel any saved wages into attracting a decent seamer. I have a hunch that we may see a high profile player leave, which could help finance any new additions.
