Will he play again for Sussex? I would have thought so. Are you implying that he's not worth a little more perseverance? Have you heard anything? I accept that he hasn't yet lived up to his early billing, but I think it's a little soon to be calling for jury's verdict. I still think some MBs got a bit over-optimistic at the end of last season, based on his personality, his boots and his car!

Done enough to show he's not good enough I'm sorry to say.
Just got a wicket, Collingwood slogging. Don't go overboard and say 'Yes he can'.
Give Beer the same chance? he deserves a run.

Surely he now has to hone his game in the seconds.

Beer's done much better than Zaidi, in all his very little spells in the firsts, which were also over fewer games. It's beyond ridiculous that this guy was drafted in ahead of Beer. He's a club cricketer, and Lancs knew it. What a waste, and we're sposed to have a tight budget. That said, he might be a better one-day player but that will probably be at Beer's expense when he undoubtedly gets his chances.

I hate to criticise a player whom I would love to succeed and whose unorthodox - even eccentric - approach to the game I had hoped would make him a Sussex cult hero. But I have to ask : what is the point of Zaidi?
He has now played every game –uni match, v Sri Lankans, plus all LVCC and T20 Bash games - which means he is one of the first name on the team sheet. I think Yardy, Brown and Machan are the only other players who have been ever-present.
But in ten games he has contributed just 95 runs and 12 very expensive wkts (a quarter of which came in the opening fixture v the students), plus a reprimand and a one match ban (suspended) for his behaviour.
Every time anyone suggested on the old message board that Robinson should change the selection policy, Filby (currently lost-in-action - has he been taken hostage by the Inner Circle?) vehemently told us that selection had nothing to do with the coach and was Joyce’s prerogative. In which case it is surely high time Robinson asserted some authority and intervened to tell the captain that the Zaidi hunch (and frankly it was never anything more than that) has been tested to destruction and it is time to move on to plan b (assuming there is one).
Sorry for Zaidi, who seems a nice lad. But there is no room for sentimentality in pro-sport and it seems pig-headed stubbornness to go on selecting him.

TC, I see it not so much a criticism of Zaidi (who is presumably doing his best), it's more a criticism of those who continue to select him.

TC, I see it not so much a criticism of Zaidi (who is presumably doing his best), it's more a criticism of those who continue to select him. Exactly. Of course we all hate to criticise. Wouldn't it be lovely if we had no need because the sun shone all day and Sussex never lost and all our players were world beaters and there was no corruption in the game? Somewhere over the rainbow... Me and hhsussex were taken to task (by you, I think, fb) for over-romanticising Zaidi , plucked from the leagues in his battered old car and using grounders' whitewash on his boots to become a Sussex superstar who filled Panesar's role as world class spinner, batted in the top six and opened the bowling in the T20. I desperately wanted that to happen. It would have been a lovely story. But the expectation placed upon him by the Sussex selectors to do all that has proved to be quite unreasonable. With the benefit of hindsight, this is unsurprising given that this time last year he was plying his trade for Accrington. The fairy tale has been tested to destruction and it is time to join the real world, I think. Perhaps TC would care to make out the case for his continued selection? I think we would all be genuinely interested to hear what it is...

I guess it's for Robinson and Joyce to decide who they select and why. No need for me to make a case and we can all see who is struggling.
With hindsight or more foresight ,one might ask why play Zaidi on a slow pitch and not bowl him. Why not bowl RHB either?why not let someone like Piolet pinch hit as we lacked fire power.why continue with a badly out of form Liddle and not give Hobden a chance? Why not play another batsman to replace Nash? Maybe wells.why bowl so much seam when it was unsuccessful?
Lacking batting I can guess why z was selected.
But I can't answer any of those because I am not the captain or coach. And my thoughts are not very informative.

By definition, criticism may be positive or negative. I guess it's incumbent on us all as Sussex supporters to emphasise the positives at least as much as the negatives. That's tough when you see more of the latter than the former. Of course the responsibility for selection and performance doesn't rest with those on the board; heaven forfend, but to propose that we can't express opinion ions on these these issues is , frankly absurd. Perhaps the elitist board, the House of Lords of Sussex supporters ascribes to such principles, but this forum is not so undemocratically shackled. Nice sarcasm ...why do you all worry so much about the" elitist " board and waste no opportunity to get in a jibe? I will go back so don't worry about my contratian elitist views..

I have no idea who the members of the so-called "inner circle" or "elitist board" are, either by real name or nom-de-plume, but, over the years, I have enjoyed intelligent informative and analytical comments by several regular posters, including Triple Century. Many of these posters appear to have gone missing in the last year or two, which is a pity. Much, although by no means all, that is contributed nowadays tends towards the banal and tediously repetitive.

I, for one, am delighted that triplecentury has returned and offering his insights. So, please give him some slack. We need people of his calibre...he's one of the good guys... and he has strong connections with Windies cricket.
