If you hit the ball in the air there’s a good chance you’ll be caught. Why Delray trudged off looking hard done by I don’t know, poor shot. However 3 batting points is more than I thought we’d get against this bowling group so I’m happy. 318/7 and a chance to get a 4th batting point with Garton still there. I also have a little winge about a certain players temperament in red ball cricket, but have nothing to add to what's been said by several contributers so far.
Would have been happier with another 30 on the board or a couple of less wickets down, but thats because expectations have gone up in the last few weeks.
Actually, it's a better than expected score against tough opposition at this stage. Particularly when looking at other counties scores today. Go Sussex!

It is free mate, i agree it could be better but i think we are incredibly lucky to have any coverage at all. Why? Did you wake up today in 2007? Other counties have very good live stream, so ours should be. It didn't work for me at all a minute ago. I'll try again when they're actually playing. A pinch hitter Joe? A pinch hitter? Did you wake up today in 1997? I've never heard of a pinch hitter in the longer form, or at four in any form. A pinch hitter is some wafting bowler coming up to open or bat at three in a 90s one day team, man. Rawlins' problem is that he's trying to introduce pinch hitting at six to the longer form. It ain't working. Done alright today until he started pinch hitting. Good day, probably. Let's see if Brown finally opens with the left arm swing bowler. Baffles me that one. Well done again young Haines. Shows you should stick with lads of 20/21 to see if they prosper. He could have gone the same way as Hudson-Prentice, discarded at 21 without a fair crack. 4-30 odd today for Derbyshire. Rawlins is a pinch hitter wherever he bats so he might as well bat further up and swing away till he’s out which will be 9 times out of 10. If you read the article about Garton that Wicked Cricket put on the Garton thread, you’ll see that he averages 40’s when he opens the bowling in the CC but 20’s when he bowls after 30 overs. He also gets the old ball to reverse swing.

Where does it say that Joe? I don't think it does but even if he did it would be irrelevant. He's better now, you gotta strike while the iron's hot. No England bowler turns up having not opened for his county. He's a left arm swing bowler, the ultimate opening bowler. He can go off and come back on after 30 overs you know.

Apparently being replaced before next match

Someone at the media center needs a rocket. All the camera set up should have been tried and tested well in advance of live cricket coverage. Ho hum. That's the last comment by me on this shambles.

I was hoping we might sneak beyond 350 this morning. If only we had Archer, Jordan and Robinson attacking Lancashire now. Hey ho. I fancy Lancashire to rattle up a few runs here. Let's hope I'm wrong.

Well done Crocombe and Atkins. Didn't get carted; but didn't look over threatening. 2 years time that will be different. I do think that Garton and Meaker should have opened. Brown must be following a Kirtley development plan.

Without Robinson our bowling attack has lost its bite. An average start before rains stops play ending with a dropped catch from Clark.
Perhaps, it's time to lower our expectations for the rest of the Championship with no Ollie in the side? I agree another two or three years and our youngster seam attack will have sharpened their teeth.

There is a tinge of guilty pleasure watching Wells wicket fall. Lancashire 145-3Sussex fighting back. edit: At this rate Jack Carson will be quickly following the heels of Ollie to England. Lancashire 150-4 (Carson 3 for 35)Please, please can we get Vilas out early. edit: I must have psychic powers! Vilas plays on for 0 and Atkins gains his first, first-class wicket. WOW! What was put in the team's pot of tea at tea? Lancashire 151-5
edit: This is pure pleasure to watch. Carson gets his fourth. 5 Lancashire wickets fall for just 15 runs.

Well, Day 2 was an interesting day. I suspect I was not alone in thinking that Luke Wells might get a big score; it was a relief when Stuart Meaker found the edge of his bat. Earlier, there was relief too that a menacing reply of 130-odd for 1 became not too many more for six. Hats off to Jack Carson who is starting to pick up wickets with regularity. He just needs one more today, hopefully early this morning, to complete his fifer. There can't be many who are surprised by the gritty performances that this young team is producing. I am sure there will be some bad days where inexperience will show, but I just feel that we are trying our best to compete at all times. Even when a wicket didn't look like falling in the first hundred runs of Lancashire's innings, the bowlers stuck at their job and kept the run rate to 2.5-ish. Come on Sussex, let's get a decent a first innings lead and push on.

Good tight bowling by all the bowlers stopped them taking the game away from us even before the wickets started falling. Atkins bowled well on his debut and didn’t look out of place in the team, he deserved his wicket. Garton was unlucky having 3 catches dropped off his bowling, his second spell inducing some false shots.
Carson is a revelation, not since Mushy have we had an attacking, wicket taking spinner, I like the cut of his jib!
Wrap it up by lunch with a decent first innings lead and it’s game on.

"There is a tinge of guilty pleasure watching Wells wicket fall."
That's nice S&F. He didn't wanna leave. A better person would feel guilty pleasure at him scoring well against Sussex, not failing. You and your likers can hang your heads in shame. Or not, whatever.
Trust in the youth and add quality only from outside and abroad, within the legal allocation. The true mantra. 8-80 odd for Sussex lad H-P in the Derby game, a young man who was inexplicably released in the Davis regime of negative management.
Thank God, or the nearest realistic interpretation, it's better now.
