That is typical Sussex they give the lad a contract he proves he can score runs and has the application unlike some of the Sussex 1st team what more has he got to do it seems Mr Rawlings is untouchable It is interesting sometimes you read on here we try to many inexperienced players now people are demanding a very raw talent is fast tracked in to the first team. Rawlins bowls a lot of overs which is why he is selected. I reckon get behind the team rather than knocking a kid. Yes quite....

Think you’ll find our team is currently full of youngsters. Orr has played relatively few second eleven games.

I agree with your sentiment andyb; but he shouldnt be playing this game. He hasn't deserved it and hasn't got runs in the 2s. Head can bowl if needed. This treatment of Rawlins could backfire. What does Orr have to do. I think there is a focus on youth and the future, but this has to be consistent. I honestly hope Rawlins gets a big score in this game. Rawlins is a big part of the future and is a consistent selection. Orr will get his opportunity. I think Rawlins has been made the scapegoat for a lot of batting failures. Perosnally i thought Thomasen was lucky to play this game. I would be suprised if Rawlins has a big future (in the four day game) based on current form with the bat both this season and last.
The criticism he has attracted is based on his form and inability to knuckle down when required.
I respect your view, but agree with the others, that he would benefit from a few games in the seconds with support from the coaching staff.
That said, hope he gets a big score.

What a disastrous signing Head is ! So far, not so good!
Looks fairly out of sorts in English conditions. Hope he finds his feet.

I dont disagree but rather than just sit here and attack the geezer (especially when your only solution to the problem is chuck Ali Orr in) get behind him is all im saying. He isnt solely to blame for our Batting efforts this year.

This is an absolutely disastrous batting performance from Sussex and the body language of some of the players walking off is appalling I think a few players need to look at their performances here and perhaps give others a chance in the next game Ali Orr springs to mind a 2nd team player in form yet ignored this game could be over in 2 days

Trouble is, we don’t really have any other batting options, until Salt comes back.

He isnt solely to blame for our Batting efforts this year. Orr was given a contract. His good run of form in the 2s should give him a chance of playing. I don't consider this to be chucking him in. At 61 for 7 our batting is struggling; and as a team game it is not all down to Rawlins. The young bowling talent Hunt, Crocombe, Atkins and Carson haven't set the 2s on fire. They have been given opportunity in the 1s; and seem to have benefited from this. Let's have some consistency in the youth selection policy for batters.

'I very much hope I am wrong, but unless our batsmen fire or the weather plays a part (both producing a draw), expect another heavy defeat. I can already visualise Brown throwing the ball to Clark in order to wrestle back some degree of control as we trundle along waiting their declaration.
With Labuschagne due runs for Glamorgan, a trip to Yorkshire and Stevens and Kent to pick up where they left off still to come, start making plans for Leicestershire, Derbyshire, Worcestershire and Middlesex for August and September and a battle for the Wooden Spoon.
Our hopes very much rest with the T20.'
Sadly, my prediction seems to be very much on the button. Only difference is, unlike many of our matches over this season and last we aren't waiting to the second innings to throw it away.
Simply, not good enough. We are a Country mile behind most other Counties. Northants are decent, but hardly on a par with the likes of the top Counties.
With regard to the Rawlins debate as I have stated in the past, I maintain he is probably the most naturally talented player we have, a flamboyant batter, natural athlete in the field and useful slow left arm bowler. I am confident he will thrive in time in all formats, he just lacks 'game management' knowing what a match situation warrants that should come with proper coaching and experience.
Just two thoughts, given recent performances is he any more culpable than other team members? Secondly, if he didn't have to keep coming in to face the pressure of several wickets down for very few runs he might have a better chance of putting together an innings.
Based on the events of this morning, does he warrant being dropped any more than anyone else in the top order?
Brace yourselves fellow Sussex supporters I fear there is still worse to come in this match 😡😥😢😭.

I have been away from any media this morning and return to find out the latest match score and come across this debacle of 67-7 at lunch.
What the Hell has just happened?
Great Northants bowling or terrible Sussex batting?

67/7 at lunch.
Van Zyl and Head got out to good balls, the others not so much.
Re the Rawlins debate, I don’t think he’s a red ball batter. His red ball bowling offers some control although he takes very few wickets. His fielding is excellent and would be a big miss. So as far as I’m concerned he’s in the side to hold up an end and stop a few boundaries, Will Beer could do that job and he’s a better batsman.
