Looks like a draw. Would we have won with McAndrew instead of Smith? We’ll never know. Definitely would have had more of a chance.

14 wickets for Robinson, 4 for our other bowlers combined. Surely there has to be at least one change for the next game.

Ollie, Ollie, Ollie… What a performance. 14 wickets and more to come, hopefully. If only Sussex had another bowler good enough to assist him. Would rather have McAndrew than Smith. We won't any matches unless we take 20 wickets.

Definitely would have had more of a chance. I think like most of us I’d rather have had McAndrew bowling than Smith’s 30 runs, it’s been clear for the last few years taking wickets has been our problem not scoring runs. Seems odd then to replace a wicket taking bowler with a batsman. And yes I did say this several weeks ago!!

Problem i have with this is without Smith we could have collapsed at 67-3 and the game then is entirely different. There are no guarantees McAndrew would have taken wickets. Crocombe has taken just 4 less than him. Garton, Currie and Karvelas are both better than Hunt and probably would have had an impact on this game. Fact remains rain for a day ruined our chances not Steve Smith.

We need to stop blaming the weather and face up to our glaringly obvious shortcomings which even Stevie Wonder could see in the bowling department.

I'm not disagreeing that we need a stronger bowling attack, if you read my post i listed 3 bowlers we have in the squad who could have had a bigger impact. I've had a look through the free agents and there isnt anyone out there other than Stevens. I dont know why but i just have this feeling he might be drafted in.

Maximum bowling points makes the Stevie Wonder comment look pretty average.
Table is looking lovely! Onto Leicester and big runs for Smudge.

Steve Smith didn’t lose us the game but McAndrew could have won it for us. We only needed a 2fer or 3fer from him in each innings. Also having another wicket taking bowler would have given Robinson more rest time between spells.
Not to be today but still undefeated and 2nd in the table, would have bitten your arm off for those results last year so a lot to be happy about.

Yes the table looks great, I can’t remember the last time we were unbeaten after 4 games, probably the promotion season of 2010? I’ve no doubt we’d all have taken that if offered! Pujara was, yet again, outstanding, and Ollie was magnificent, I wouldn’t be surprised though given how obviously completely exhausted he was if England pull him out of the Leicestershire game. He only just made it off the field then collapsed into a seat on the boundary edge and didn’t move, he couldn’t even make it up the stairs to the dressing room, followed not long after by FHP who had also given everything he had. I thought Hunt and Crocombe gave it their all but they just didn’t look threatening, they both have a first class bowling average around 40 and and to be honest I don’t think either of them have developed as quickly as some of the other youngsters. Yes I’m absolutely sure we’d have won without yesterdays washout and I agree realab1 that there are better options. Garton (any idea anyone why he hasn’t played despite turning out for the 2’s this week?) Karvelas, who must surely come in next week, and Currie, who I’m a little mystified as to why hasn’t even been in a squad yet. I think there was a pretty unanimous view on here that once Pujara was back that the second overseas should be a quick bowler, yes we lost Seales but he was replaced by McAndrew who has looked more than decent, again let’s be honest he’s been our best bowler (obviously Ollie aside) Should Ollie miss Leicester (and fingers crossed he pulls up fine and England say yes) then in my opinion McAndrew would give us a better chance of winning the game than Smith.

All very valid points, but there's just no way that Smith doesn't play I'm afraid.

Oh I know he’s going to play, I guess my point is I still don’t understand signing him when we needed (and more pertinently have) an overseas quick! Had Pujara been unavailable and he’d come in as a replacement then absolutely no argument from me.
